Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS
Dodgers' Tommy Kahnle: Won't return in 2021
Kahnle (elbow) will not pitch this season, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kahnle underwent Tommy John surgery in August of 2020, so there was some hope that he may return late this season. However, he has only progressed to playing catch and will not have time to ramp up to game action. Kahnle should be ready to pitch out of the Dodgers' bullpen at the beginning of next season.

Scott Alexander RP | SF
Dodgers' Scott Alexander: Ruled out for season
Alexander (shoulder) will not return during the 2021 season, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Alexander has been sidelined since July 20 with inflammation in his shoulder, an issue that also affected him earlier in the season. He'll close the campaign with a 2.93 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB across 15.1 innings.

Tyler Rogers RP | TOR
Giants' Tyler Rogers: Blows save Friday
Rogers allowed three runs on three hits in one inning, taking a blown save in Friday's 6-5 extra-innings win over Atlanta.
The right-hander gave up a three-run home run to Travis d'Arnaud in the top of the ninth inning, although Donovan Solano tied the game for San Francisco with a solo shot to force extras. Rogers hadn't allowed a run in 14 innings entering Friday's contest. With Jake McGee (oblique) on the injured list, Gabe Kapler expects to mix-and-match with Rogers, Tony Watson and Dominic Leone handling late-inning duties going forward, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Rogers has pitched to a 2.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 49:10 K:BB while adding 12 saves, 27 holds and six blown saves across 72 innings this year.

Camilo Doval RP | NYY
Giants' Camilo Doval: Earns win in extras
Doval (3-1) earned the win in extra innings Friday against Atlanta after tossing a scoreless 11th inning.
Doval only needed seven pitches to get the job done en route to his third win of the season. He's yet to allow a run in six appearances this month, posting a 7:3 K:BB through 5.2 innings in that span.

Jacob Webb RP | CHC
Braves' Jacob Webb: Picks up loss in extras
Webb (4-3) was tagged with the loss Friday against San Francisco after allowing an unearned run while walking two across two-thirds of an inning.
Webb was tasked with pitching the 11th inning and ended just one out away from closing things out, but a sac fly from Kevin Gausman that scored Brandon Crawford changed the outcome of the contest. This was the first time Webb allowed a run since May 21, though, and for the most part, he's been a reliable arm for the Braves out of the bullpen.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Brewers' Josh Hader: Records 32nd save
Hader allowed one hit but tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his 32nd save of the year Friday against the Cubs.
Hader entered to pitch the ninth after the Brewers scored four runs in the eighth to take an 8-5 lead. Rafael Ortega reached on an infield single to leadoff but Hader was able to retire the next three batters in order to end the game. The 27-year-old has closed out 32 of his 33 save chances this year and has a 1.37 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 90:22 K:BB over 52.2 innings.

Will Smith RP | KC
Braves' Will Smith: Blown save Friday
Smith blew a save opportunity Friday against the Giants after allowing one run across one inning. He struck out two in the outing.
Smith has now blown saves in two of three chances, but prior to that, he hadn't failed to capitalize on these opportunities since August, when he also recorded two blown saves in less than a week. The reliever gave up a run in two of his last five appearances but still owns a 2.57 ERA through seven innings this month.

Jeff Hoffman RP | TOR
Reds' Jeff Hoffman: Dormant since shelling
Hoffman hasn't pitched in the last two weeks since getting shelled against the Tigers on September 3, when he gave up four runs and served up two homers over 1.2 innings.
The Reds have been carrying an eight-man bullpen and yet Hoffman hasn't been used at all. What's strange is that was basically Hoffman's only bad outing as a reliever -- in 18.0 previous innings of relief, he had a 1.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with a 24:7 K:BB. Nonetheless, manager David Bell hasn't had the confidence to use him during a tough stretch for the Reds.
-
Alex Reyes RP | LAD
Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Nabs second hold
Reyes was credited with his second hold in a win over the Padres on Friday. He fired 0.2 scoreless innings, issued a walk and recorded two strikeouts.
Reyes has seemingly embraced his new setup role after running into some trouble late in his tenure as closer, as he now has five consecutive scoreless appearances. While Reyes is not currently seeing save opportunities, that has been offset by him qualifying for a relative flurry of decisions, with the right-hander securing three wins and two holds over his last five trips to the mound.

Kyle Finnegan RP | DET
Nationals' Kyle Finnegan: Another meltdown Friday
Finnegan (5-8) allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in one innings, taking the loss and a blown save versus Colorado on Friday.
Tasked with protecting a one-run lead in the ninth inning, Finnegan blew a save for the second straight outing. He allowed a solo home run to Elias Diaz and an RBI single to Brendan Rodgers, which was enough to stick the right-hander with the loss. The 30-year-old has a 3.39 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 61:30 K:BB through 61 innings this year. Mason Thompson and Patrick Murphy both pitched perfect innings prior to Finnegan's meltdown Friday, and they could be the top candidates to get any save chances should manager Dave Martinez take Finnegan out of the closer role.
