Hudson was placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain Friday.

While Hudson won't be able to pitch for at least 15 days, it's possible he won't wind up missing a single game in which he would have appeared. He just started Thursday against the Dodgers, so he wasn't going to pitch in any of the last three games prior to the All-Star break. The Cardinals then have two off days in the first week after the break, so they won't need to carry five starters. Unless reports emerge that his neck strain is particularly serious, it's possible this move represents little more than a bit of clever roster management. Hudson will be eligible to return July 30. Zack Thompson was recalled to take his place on the roster.

Castano was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Castano will return to Jacksonville after he was called up June 15, posting a 4.35 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with 18 punchouts over 31 innings in six starts while in the majors. He'll likely remain one of the Marlins' top options for a potential call-up later this season. The move opened a roster spot for Cody Poteet (elbow), who was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Romero (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday.

Romero spent the start of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in May of 2021, but he began a rehab assignment in mid-June and posted a 1.54 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 11.2 innings over 11 appearances in the minors. The southpaw earned seven holds over 23 appearances during his first two seasons in the majors, and it's possible that he'll work his way into some setup duties during the second half of the 2022 season.

Brogdon (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday.

Brogdon will return to the Phillies after missing three weeks of action while on the COVID-19 list. The right-hander has produced a 2.04 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over 17.2 innings in 19 appearances this season. Cristopher Sanchez was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Friday to open a roster spot for Brogdon.

Robles signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Friday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Robles was let go by the Red Sox last weekend after being designated for assignment, and he'll need to earn his place with the Dodgers on his minor-league contract. The right-hander picked up a pair of saves for Boston but sputtered to a 5.84 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 24.2 innings over 26 innings. He should report to Triple-A Oklahoma City to begin his time with his new organization.

Hudson (6-6) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out three batters over 6.2 innings.

Hudson gave up only one run through five frames, but a Will Smith RBI double in the sixth inning and a Gavin Lux homer in the seventh sent him to the showers with a mediocre final line. Hudson notched only four swinging strikes in the contest, but he showed some improvement by avoiding issuing multiple walks for just the fifth time in 18 appearances. The right-hander's 4.10 ERA and 1.36 WHIP on the season aren't disastrous, but he's waiver-wire material in most mixed fantasy leagues due to a poor 4.9 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9.

Doval (3-5) allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in two innings, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Brewers.

Doval has allowed a run in four of his last five outings, though two of those four runs were unearned in extra-inning losses. He gave up an RBI single to Jonathan Davis in the 10th inning of Thursday's contest. Doval's recent struggles are a little concerning -- he hasn't logged a save since June 28, though the Giants' slump has been a factor in that as much as his own shaky pitching. He still has a 3.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 47:17 K:BB in 38.2 innings across 39 appearances while adding 12 saves, two holds and two blown saves.

Williams struck out one without allowing a baserunner in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Thursday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Giants.

Josh Hader and Williams had pitched each of the last two days, but the former took a loss Wednesday after allowing three runs. Williams continued his recent run of dominance even as Mike Yastrzemski stole third as the designated runner. Williams' scoreless streak is now two months long, as he hasn't allowed any runs in his last 24.2 innings across 26 appearances. He owns a 1.77 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 59:19 K:BB through 35.2 innings this year while adding six saves and 23 holds, and he hasn't been charged with a blown save.

Estevez didn't allow a baserunner while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Thursday against the Padres.

Daniel Bard pitched in three of Colorado's last four games entering Thursday, which allowed Estevez to earn his first save of the campaign. Estevez is not likely to see many additional save chances this season -- barring Bard being traded -- as he has a 4.45 ERA and 26:15 K:BB across 30.1 frames.

Moreta allowed a hit but tallied the final two outs of the 10th inning without allowing a run to earn the save Thursday against the Yankees.

Moreta has struggled mightily out of the Cincinnati bullpen this season, maintaining a 7.36 ERA and 29:9 K:BB across 25.2 frames. However, he earned his first career save Thursday after Hunter Strickland pitched with the game tied and Alexis Diaz unavailable after appearing in three of the team's last four games. Given his lack of success this season, it's difficult to envision Moreta picking up additional save chances..
