  • Brent Suter RP | LAA

Brewers' Brent Suter: Feeling fine Saturday

Suter (undisclosed) said Saturday that he's feeling fine after exiting Friday's game against the Cardinals, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.

Suter exited Friday's matchup after colliding with the dugout railing, but he was making a case to remain in the game after the incident. While the exact nature of his injury isn't yet clear, it doesn't appear as though he'll be forced to miss much time.

  • Rockies' Lucas Gilbreath: Slated to begin rehab assignment

Gilbreath (illness) will head to Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Although Gilbreath rejoined the Rockies on Friday and tossed a bullpen session, he'll need to make at least one appearance with the minor-league club before he's cleared to make his 2022 debut. The Rockies haven't yet indicated when they plan to activate Gilbreath from the COVID-19 injured list, but it's possible that will happen as early as this week.

  • Rockies' Robert Stephenson: Rehab assignment on tap

Stephenson (illness) will head to Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday to begin a rehab assignment, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Stephenson threw a bullpen session Friday after rejoining the Rockies, and he'll work with the minor-league club after missing the first week and a half of the regular season. It's not yet clear how many rehab appearances the right-hander will require, but it's possible that he could return to game action in the majors sometime next week.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Won't start Tuesday

Hicks won't start Tuesday's game against the Marlins, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Hicks was initially slated to make his first start of the season Tuesday in Miami, but he'll instead be available out of the bullpen against the Brewers on Saturday and Sunday. Adam Wainwright will now start Tuesday's series opener against Miami, while manager Oliver Marmol said that he expects Hicks to start late in the series against the Marlins or during the team's series against Cincinnati next weekend.

  • Luis Garcia RP | MIN

Padres' Luis Garcia: Reinstated from IL

The Padres reinstated Garcia (oblique) from the injured list Friday, and he allowed one hit and no runs over two-thirds of an inning in the team's loss to Atlanta.

Garcia opened the season on the IL due to the oblique issue, but he was able to return to the big club after two minor-league rehab outings. The 35-year-old relieved MacKenzie Gore with one out in the sixth inning of Friday's contest and needed just six pitches to get out of the frame, though he gave up a single to Marcell Ozuna. Garcia notched 11 holds with the Cardinals last season before signing with San Diego in December.

  • Cory Abbott RP | SEA

Cubs' Cory Abbott: Designated for assignment

Abbott was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Saturday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Abbott began the season at Triple-A Iowa and will now lose his place on the 40-man roster after Mark Leiter's contract was selected by the Cubs on Saturday. Abbott has allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings in his first two starts in Iowa this year, and he'll likely remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Mark Leiter RP | ATH

Cubs' Mark Leiter: Contract selected prior to start

Leiter's contract was selected by the Cubs ahead of Saturday's start against the Rockies, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Manager David Ross confirmed Friday that Leiter would serve as Saturday's starter, and the right-hander is officially in line to make his first major-league appearance since 2018. In his lone start at Triple-A Iowa to begin the season, he allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in four innings. Since Wade Miley (elbow) and Alec Mills (back) remain out, Leiter will likely be a candidate to remain in the rotation until his teammates are cleared to return.

  • Andre Pallante SP | STL

Cardinals' Andre Pallante: Pitches two scoreless innings

Pallante allowed two hits and a walk with one strikeout in two scoreless innings versus the Brewers on Friday.

Pallante has yielded six baserunners across three innings in his first two major-league appearances. He'll likely be limited to low-leverage situations until he can keep traffic off the basepaths better. He was solid last season as a starter for Double-A Springfield, where he managed a 3.82 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 82:42 K:BB, so he should continue to see multi-inning assignments while in the big leagues.

  • Pierce Johnson RP | CIN

Padres' Pierce Johnson: Takes loss in relief

Johnson (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief Friday against Atlanta after allowing three runs on four hits across two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two.

Johnson recorded three holds and didn't give up a run in any of his first three outings of the season, but the wheels came off and he couldn't even finish the eighth inning after entering the game with a 2-2 tie. Johnson tossed 19 of his 28 pitches for strikes, but he simply had a rough day. One bad outing is not going to remove him from his high-leverage role, though, especially since he's posted an ERA below the 3.25 mark in each of his last two seasons.

  • Mark Leiter RP | ATH

    Cubs' Mark Leiter: Starting Saturday

Leiter will be called up from Triple-A Iowa to start Saturday's game against the Rockies, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Leiter joined the Cubs' taxi squad Friday, and his contract will be selected prior to Saturday's matchup in Colorado. The right-hander hasn't made a major-league start since 2017, but he allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out seven in four innings during a start at Iowa to begin the 2022 season. The Cubs' starting rotation is shorthanded while Wade Miley (elbow) and Alec Mills (back) are on the injured list, so it's possible that Leiter continues to fill in as a starter if he performs well Saturday.
