Lucas Sims RP | CHW
Reds' Lucas Sims: Bombs in mop-up outing
Sims gave up five runs in two-thirds of inning during Wednesday's 18-4 loss to the Brewers. He gave up one hit while walking four batters.
Sims was in a "get-work" outing, having last pitched Saturday and then five days prior to that. If the Reds beat the odds and actually have a save chance Thursday, there's a reasonable likelihood that Sims won't be available after throwing 34 pitches Wednesday.

Dillon Peters RP | PIT
Pirates' Dillon Peters: Strong as opener again
Peters allowed one hit and one walk while striking out four across 3.1 scoreless innings in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision.
Peters served as the opener, with Bryse Wilson working behind him in a piggyback appearance. This was the second time that Peters has preceded Wilson in this role, the first coming in a two-inning stint on April 27. The appearance continued Peters' strong start to the season, as he has yet to allow an earned run across 16.2 frames while striking out 13 and walking six.

Craig Kimbrel RP | TB
Dodgers' Craig Kimbrel: Unavailable Wednesday
Manager Dave Roberts said Kimbrel will be unavailable for Wednesday's game against the Giants, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Kimbrel needed 26 pitches to record the save in Tuesday's 3-1 victory, so he won't be available out of the bullpen Wednesday. Daniel Hudson is the likely option to step in for a potential save situation since Blake Treinen (shoulder) is on the injured list.

Elieser Hernandez RP | ATL
Marlins' Elieser Hernandez: Allows five runs in no-decision
Hernandez gave up five runs on five hits and three walks across four innings during Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Diamondbacks. He had three strikeouts and didn't factor in the decision.
Hernandez cruised through the first three frames but fell apart in the fourth, as Arizona rallied for five runs on four hits and three walks. He threw 48 of his 78 pitches for strikes and generated only seven swinging strikes. It's the third time through five starts the right-hander has failed to complete at least five innings. Hernandez has a 6.66 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB over 24.1 innings, and he lines up for a rematch with the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Anthony Bender RP | MIA
Marlins' Anthony Bender: Blows save in loss
Bender (0-3) was charged with a blown save and the loss Wednesday against Arizona after giving up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and zero walks during the ninth inning.
The right-hander entered for the top of the ninth with a 7-6 lead and struck out the first batter he faced, but Daulton Varsho reached on a single and Pavin Smith followed with a two-run home run. Bender came into the contest having converted four straight saves while not allowing a run in his past four appearances, but he got bit by the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old is 6-for-8 in save opportunities and has a 5.79 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB across 9.1 innings this season, and his run as Miami's primary closer could be near an end with Dylan Floro (shoulder) on a rehab assignment and close to returning from the injured list.

Cory Abbott RP | SEA
Nationals' Cory Abbott: Claimed by Nationals
Abbott was claimed off waivers by the Nationals on Wednesday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports.
Abbott was traded from the Cubs to the Giants on April 21, but he was recently cast off San Francisco's 40-man roster. He'll land with the Nationals and has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester to begin his time with the organization. He's allowed three runs while striking out six in six innings over two Triple-A starts this year.

Alex Vesia RP | LAD
Dodgers' Alex Vesia: Credited with first hold
Vesia retired two batters -- one by strikeout -- and did not allow any baserunners to earn a hold in Tuesday's victory against the Giants.
Los Angeles carried a 2-0 lead into the seventh inning before Brusdar Graterol got into a jam that saw the Giants put the tying run on second base. Vesia was summoned to contain the threat, and he allowed a sacrifice fly before striking out Luke Williams to preserve the lead. This was the southpaw's first hold of the campaign, as he's primarily been used in lower-leverage spots thus far. Vesia has yet to allow a run through seven innings this season, and he has posted a superb 10:1 K:BB.

Trevor May RP | ATH
Mets' Trevor May: Faces extended absence
May (triceps) was diagnosed Wednesday with a stress reaction on the lower portion of his humerus and will be shut down from throwing for at least four weeks, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
May's triceps injury first surfaced during an April 11 appearance against the Phillies, but he missed only a few days before he was made available out of the bullpen. However, after giving up six earned runs in 6.1 innings over his subsequent six relief appearances, May acknowledged earlier this week that his triceps had still been bothering him. The Mets placed him on the 15-day injured list Tuesday and sent him in for an MRI, which revealed the stress reaction. Since he'll need additional time to build up his arm once he's cleared to throw again, May won't realistically make his return from the IL until at least mid-to-late June.

Pedro Avila RP | CLE
Padres' Pedro Avila: Called up as 27th man
Avila was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to serve as the 27th man in Wednesday's doubleheader against the Guardians.
Avila was sent down by the Padres on Sunday, but he'll provide an additional bullpen arm for Wednesday's twin bill. Over two major-league appearances this year, he's allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out five in four innings.

Mark Melancon RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Mark Melancon: Throws in bullpen
Melancon (undisclosed) played long toss on the field and later threw in the bullpen late Monday night, well after the game ended, Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic reports.
Melancon has been on the injured list since last Friday after a positive COVID-19 test. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the team cleared everything with MLB to allow Melancon to participate in the activity with no one else around. The reliever's status is up in the air, per Lovullo, who added Melancon needs another negative test to be activated.
