  • Andrew Vasquez RP | DET

Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Out with calf tightness

Vasquez was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left calf tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

The 29-year-old has surrendered eight earned runs over six innings since being claimed off waivers by Detroit in early August, and he'll now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. With just over a month left in the campaign, Vasquez could have difficulty returning this season if he requires a shutdown period beyond a few days.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

Angels' Reynaldo Lopez: Placed on waivers Tuesday

The Angels placed Lopez on waivers Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Lopez has pitched to a solid 2.31 ERA and 19:6 K:BB in 11.2 innings since being acquired from the White Sox in late July, but the Angels have made him available to other teams prior to the Sept. 1 postseason eligibility deadline. Lucas Giolito, Matt Moore, Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk were also waived Tuesday in an attempted salary dump.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Angels' Matt Moore: Placed on waivers

The Angels placed Moore on waivers Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Hunter Renfroe and Randal Grichuk have also been made available to other teams as the Angels throw in the towel on the 2023 season and look to gain some salary relief. Moore, 34, carries a 2.30 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 47:12 K:BB through 43 innings this year and should be of interest as a bullpen addition for just about any contending club.

  • Red Sox's Kyle Barraclough: Returns to minors

Barraclough was optioned to Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

Barraclough was called up by the Red Sox on Monday and was lit up for 10 runs across 4.1 innings of long relief to take the loss against the Astros, so it's not a major surprise he's not sticking on the big-league roster. The 33-year-old has pitched well as a starter at Triple-A this season with a 2.43 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 41:23 K:BB over 55.2 innings.

  • Bennett Sousa RP | HOU

Tigers' Bennett Sousa: Claimed by Detroit

The Tigers claimed Sousa off waivers from the Brewers on Tuesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Sousa will join his fourth different organization of the season. The 28-year-old has put up big strikeout totals during his time in the minors but has struggled during his big-league opportunities, posting a 9.00 ERA and 14:12 K:BB over 23 relief innings the last two seasons. Sousa will report to Triple-A Toledo.

  • Chase Silseth RP | LAA

Angels' Chase Silseth: Placed on concussion IL

The Angels placed Silseth (concussion) on the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Silseth had to be hospitalized after taking a cross-infield throw to the back of the head during his start Saturday against the Mets. He was initially cleared of a concussion, but the Angels will play it safe with the 23-year-old right-hander as he continues to be evaluated. Silseth has pitched to a 4.10 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 53:23 K:BB through 48.1 innings (seven starts, eight relief appearances) this season.

  • Angels' Kenny Rosenberg: Recalled from Triple-A

The Angels recalled Rosenberg from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.

Chase Silseth is going on the 7-day concussion injured list in a corresponding move after taking a throw to the head Saturday against the Mets. Rosenberg has allowed five earned runs in seven major-league innings this season and figures to operate in a low-leverage relief role.

  • Athletics' Adrian Martinez: Impressive in long relief

Martinez didn't factor into the decision in the Athletics' loss to the Mariners on Monday, allowing an earned run on five hits and a walk over four innings. He also recorded a strikeout and uncorked two wild pitches.

Control issues aside, Martinez provided some valuable length for manager Mark Kotsay after starter Kyle Muller was chased following four innings. Martinez has allowed at least one earned run in each of the five appearances he's logged since being promoted from Triple-A Las Vegas on Aug. 8, but the combination of his versatility and the slew of pitching injuries the Athletics are still dealing with is likely to continue affording the right-hander consistent opportunities.

  • Joe Jacques RP | NYM

Red Sox's Joe Jacques: Recalled from Triple-A

Jacques was recalled from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Andrew Parker of Beyond the Monster reports.

This will be the third stint in the majors for Jacques, who has posted a 5.85 ERA and 14:5 K:BB over 20 innings. The corresponding move for Boston is not yet clear, but Kyle Barraclough is almost surely headed back to Worcester after throwing 94 pitches in 4.1 relief innings in Monday's loss to the Astros.

  • Kevin Kelly RP | TB

Rays' Kevin Kelly: On track to return when eligible

Kelly (ankle) is on track to return when first eligible on Friday, MLB.com reports.

Kelly was shut down for a week after spraining his left ankle, but he threw a live batting practice session last Tuesday and another one Sunday with no issues. He'll rejoin the Rays this weekend and projects to be activated when rosters expand Friday.
