  • Sam Hentges RP | SF

Guardians' Sam Hentges: Moved to 60-day IL

The Guardians transferred Hentges (shoulder) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

Hentges has been on the shelf since July 12 due to left shoulder swelling and was removed from his rehab assignment Aug. 9 with soreness in the shoulder. The move to the 60-day IL means that Hentges won't be eligible to return until Sept. 10. Anthony Gose was called up from Triple-A Columbus to take Hentges' spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Anthony Gose RP | NYM

Guardians' Anthony Gose: Joining big-league roster

The Guardians selected Gose's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Monday.

Cleveland DFA'd Gose on Aug. 9, but he stuck around in the organization after clearing waivers. Just 10 days later, he'll return to the Guardians' active roster, taking Alex Cobb's (fingernail) spot as Cobb hits the IL. Gose allowed two runs across 1.1 innings in his lone MLB appearance this season but has a 3.46 ERA with a 55:25 K:BB across 39 innings out of the bullpen for Columbus.

  • Easton Lucas RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Easton Lucas: Claimed by Jays

The Blue Jays claimed Lucas off waivers Monday.

The Tigers designated Lucas for assignment Friday after he allowed two runs in 3.1 innings. While he finds a new home in Toronto, the 27-year-old will likely report to Triple-A Buffalo. Lucas logged a 3.51 ERA across 33.1 innings for Detroit's Triple-A affiliate. Alek Manoah (elbow) was moved to the 60-day injured list to open up a spot on the 40-man roster for Lucas.

  • Dany Jimenez RP | ATL

Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Takes loss in IL return

Jimenez (1-3) took the extra-inning loss to the Giants on Sunday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits over one inning. He struck out three.

Jimenez was thrown right into the mix following his activation from the IL earlier in the day, as he was called on to preserve a 1-1 tie in the 10th after closer Mason Miller had handled the ninth. Jimenez immediately faltered by surrendering a two-run home run to Jerar Encarnacion with Matt Chapman aboard, and he followed it up by conceding a solo shot to the very next batter, Michael Conforto. The right-hander then bore down to record three consecutive swinging strikeouts, but the damage was done. Despite the long-ball issues in his return, Jimenez has typically been one of the most trusted later-inning options in Oakland's bullpen over the last two-plus seasons, and he's therefore likely to continue seeing plenty of hold opportunities, at minimum.

  • Scott Blewett RP | STL

Twins' Scott Blewett: Re-ups with Minnesota

Blewett re-signed Saturday with the Twins on a minor-league contract.

Minnesota selected Blewett's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Aug. 9, but he made just one appearance out of the big-league bullpen before he was designated for assignment less than a week later. After he cleared waivers, Blewett elected free agency Friday, but he quickly came to an agreement with the Twins on a new deal. He reported back to Triple-A, where he's accrued a 3.56 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 55:17 K:BB across 55.2 innings on the season.

  • Clay Holmes RP | NYM

Yankees' Clay Holmes: Blows save Sunday

Holmes was charged with a blown save in Sunday's loss to the Tigers, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three over an inning.

Holmes entered trying to preserve a 1-0 lead and was unable to do so. He allowed a one-out double to Colt Keith, who would come around to score on a base-hit from Jace Jung to send the game into extras. Since July 5, Holmes has six blown saves to his seven saves, and he leads all of baseball with 10 blown saves this season. On a positive note, he does have multiple strikeouts in each of his last four appearances and is still tied for sixth in baseball with 26 saves. For the year, Holmes owns a 2.88 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 56:14 K:BB in 50 innings.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | MIN

Red Sox's Liam Hendriks: Impressive rehab outing

Hendriks (elbow) pitched a prefect fifth inning for Triple-A Worcester on Sunday.

Hendriks, making the first appearance of a rehab assignment, needed 12 pitches (10 strikes) to dispatch the side in order on a flyout and two groundouts. He threw seven four-seam fastballs (topping out at 95.6 miles per hour), one curveball and one slider, per Baseball Savant. Hendriks is confident he'll return from the 60-day injured list and pitch in the majors later this season, and he could be a helpful piece out of the bullpen as the Red Sox attempt to make the postseason.

  • Rays' Tyler Alexander: Pitches well in bulk role

Alexander did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the Diamondbacks. He struck out five.

Alexander entered at the start of the third inning and pitched all the way into the eighth, allowing just one run prior to a two-run homer by Corbin Carroll. He then allowed a single to Lourdes Gurriel that ended his outing one out short of six full frames. Despite the two late runs allowed, Alexander was still in line for the win until the Diamondbacks touched up closer Pete Fairbanks for three runs in the ninth to send the game into extras. The 5.2 innings represented Alexander's longest outing since tossing 7.1 innings on May 17.

  • Orioles' Seranthony Dominguez: Collects fourth save

Dominguez earned his fourth save of the season Sunday against the Red Sox, allowing one earned run on one hit and zero walks in 1.1 innings. He struck out three.

Dominguez allowed a solo home run to Rob Refsnyder in the ninth but was otherwise excellent, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the eighth and striking out three batters in the ninth inning. With incumbent closer Craig Kimbrel allowing earned runs in back-to-back appearances, manager Brandon Hyde appears to have turned over the closer role to the newly acquired Dominguez. The 29-year-old Dominguez has been superb since coming over from Philadelphia on July 26, converting all three of his save chances while logging a robust 1.74 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB in 10.1 innings.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Astros' Josh Hader: Slams door for save

Hader struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to earn a save against the White Sox on Sunday.

Hader carved through the top of the White Sox order with ease to pick up his 27th save of the year. Despite some shakiness throughout the season, he's now converted 27 straight save chances since blowing his first opportunity as an Astro on April 2. Hader is currently riding a 9.1-inning scoreless streak, lowering his season ERA to 3.42 alongside a terrific 84:18 K:BB through 55.1 frames.
