  • Brad Keller SP | PHI

Red Sox's Brad Keller: Booted from 40-man roster

The Red Sox designated Keller for assignment Tuesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Keller coughed up five runs (three earned) over four innings in an extended relief appearance Monday versus the Blue Jays. He wasn't going to be available for at least a couple days, so the Red Sox have elected to summon another reliever in his spot.

  • Lucas Sims RP | CHW

Red Sox's Lucas Sims: Placed on IL with lat strain

The Red Sox placed Sims on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right lat strain, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Sims has been terrible since being acquired at the trade deadline, surrendering nine runs with a 7:7 K:BB over 10 innings. Now he will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks, and in all likelihood, longer.

  • Anthony Gose RP | NYM

Guardians' Anthony Gose: Back on 26-man roster

The Guardians selected Gose's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Gose was designated for assignment for the second time in August on Wednesday but inked a minor-league deal with the Guardians on Saturday and will rejoin the active roster. The 34-year-old allowed two runs in his lone appearance with the Guardians this season and has logged a 3.46 ERA across 39 innings for Columbus. Logan Allen was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • White Sox's Prelander Berroa: Recalled Tuesday

The White Sox recalled Berroa from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

The right-hander was sent to Charlotte in early August but will rejoin the big-league bullpen after John Brebbia was designated for assignment. Berroa has made just three appearances in the majors this season and has largely struggled at Triple-A with a 6.60 ERA and 49:35 K:BB over 46.1 innings.

  • John Brebbia RP | COL

White Sox's John Brebbia: Designated for assignment

The White Sox designated Brebbia for assignment Tuesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.

The veteran right-hander filled a high-leverage role for Chicago this season and recorded two saves and 13 holds, but he hadn't been particularly effective with a 6.29 ERA in 54 outings. Brebbia posted a sub-4.00 ERA in five of his six MLB campaigns entering the season, so he could receive some interest from other teams.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Angels' Matt Moore: Goes on IL with forearm injury

The Angels placed Moore on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a left forearm strain.

Moore had to be lifted from an appearance Sunday versus the Blue Jays due to the injury. He will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks and potentially longer. Ryan Miller is taking Moore's spot on the Angels' roster.

  • Michael Tonkin RP | MIN

Twins' Michael Tonkin: Heads back to Minnesota

The Twins claimed Tonkin off waivers from the Yankees on Tuesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Tonkin will begin his third stint with the Twins and second this season, after he made one appearance for Minnesota back in April before being booted from the 40-man roster. The right-hander had allowed eight runs over his final 7.2 innings with the Yankees but pitched well for them overall with a 3.37 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 57:21 K:BB in 56 innings. He'll be used in middle relief by Minnesota.

  • Sam Long RP | KC

Royals' Sam Long: Picks up win in Game 2

Long (3-1) allowed a hit and a walk while striking out two over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader versus the Guardians.

Spot starter Alec Marsh was unable to complete five innings, leaving the win to Long after the Royals took the lead in the top of the fifth. Long has allowed two runs with a 6:6 K:BB over 7.1 innings in August, earning a win and two holds. Overall, he has a 2.37 ERA despite a 1.25 WHIP and 33:14 K:BB over 30.1 innings this year, and he's added one save and five holds while mostly seeing low-leverage work.

  • Royals' John Schreiber: Earns win in matinee

Schreiber (4-3) struck out one and didn't allow a baserunner over 1.2 scoreless innings, earning the win in the first game of Monday's doubleheader versus the Guardians.

Schreiber has pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, earning a win, a save and a hold over three appearances since he returned from a knee injury. He's now at a 3.76 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 32:14 K:BB with two saves and 21 holds over 40.2 innings this year. Schreiber has allowed a lot of baserunners, but he's still been able to maintain a setup role in the Royals' struggling bullpen.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

White Sox's Michael Soroka: Set for rehab assignment

Soroka (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Soroka has been shelved since the All-Star break with a right shoulder strain but is finally ready to test himself in a game setting. The right-hander had been pitching in relief before getting injured, and given how little time is left in the season, he'll likely return to a bullpen role when the White Sox think he's ready.
