  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Notches 35th save versus Yankees

Colome earned his 35th save in Thursday's 2-0 victory over the Yankees with 1.1 innings of one-hit, scoreless ball. He also uncorked a wild pitch.

Although he didn't record any strikeouts, Colome needed only an efficient 12 pitches to dispose of Didi Gregorius, Ronald Torreyes, Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury. That stretch also included the leadoff single he surrendered to Aaron Hicks in the ninth, and his wild pitch that moved Hicks over to third with two out. However, Colome bore down to get Ellsbury to line out to center, ending the game. The 27-year-old closer has now rattled off seven straight scoreless efforts, notching saves in all of those appearances.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Converts 29th save Thursday

Kimbrel closed out the Orioles on Thursday, striking out two in one inning to pick up his 29th save of the season.

Kimbrel is 12-for-12 in save opportunities since returning from the disabled list and made it 16 straight outings of not allowing a run. There was a two-week drought at the end of August / beginning of September when the bullpen was blowing up regularly in high-leverage situations, but the return of Koji Uehara has solidified the bridge to Kimbrel, who has five saves in the last week.

  • Robby Scott RP | BOS

Red Sox's Robby Scott: Scoreless since callup

Scott pitched a scoreless third of an inning in Wednesday night's win over the Orioles. He struck out Chris Davis on three pitches before allowing an infield hit to Mark Trumbo.

Scott has not allowed a run in five innings (five K's, one BB, four hits) since being part of Boston's roster expansion this month. The former independent league pitcher has earned the trust of manager John Farrell as evidenced by the manager having him face two of Baltimore's more dangerous hitters Wednesday. The left-handed Scott is positioning himself to be a late-inning southpaw for the postseason if Boston qualifies for the playoffs. He's appeared in three of the last seven games while Fernando Abad has appeared once.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Takes loss versus Astros on Wednesday

Mengden (2-8) allowed four runs over 5.2 innings during a loss to the Astros on Wednesday. He also yielded six hits and two walks while striking out seven.

After four innings of no runs, it looked like the 23-year-old was going to build upon his last outing where he threw seven shutout frames, but Houston pushed across a run in the fifth, and then Mengden allowed a double and a homer in the sixth. His ERA is back up to 5.74. He also has a 1.54 WHIP and 32 walks versus 70 strikeouts over 69.0 innings this season. Mengden will make his next start Wednesday against the Angels.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Earns victory over Athletics on Wednesday

McHugh (12-10) allowed two runs on six hits, struck out five and walked two over 5.2 innings in a victory over the Athletics on Wednesday.

He left with a runner at second and the tying run coming to the plate, but James Hoyt retired the next batter. McHugh has allowed two or fewer runs in three straight starts, all of which were victories. He has a 4.61 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 166 strikeouts in 170 innings this season. McHugh will make his next start Monday in a very important game against Seattle

  • Buck Farmer RP | CIN

Tigers' Buck Farmer: Start shortened by rain, stats wiped

Farmer's outing lasted just 2.2 innings Wednesday against the Twins due to rain, allowing just one hit.

Unfortunately, the stats will be wiped from the books, meaning owners won't reap any benefits from the shortened outing. Anibal Sanchez will receive the start for the Tigers in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Twins.

  • Chris Devenski RP | NYM

Astros' Chris Devenski: Earns fourth win in relief Tuesday

Devenski (4-4) picked up his fourth win of the season in relief Tuesday, fanning four Athletics over 3.2 perfect innings.

Devenski has been one of the best pitchers in baseball over the last two months, going 4-2 with a 1.45 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 46:3 K:BB over 43.1 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander didn't break camp with the Astros, but he was called up in early April and hasn't looked back since, earning a high-leverage bullpen role as the Astros remain in the race for a playoff spot. Looking ahead to next season, it remains to be seen whether the Astros will continue using Devenski as their long-man out of the bullpen or move him back to the starting rotation.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Stumbles after hot start Tuesday

Santiago (12-9) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out five Tigers in Tuesday's loss.

Santiago looked locked in early Tuesday, striking out five of the first eight batters he faced, including a stretch of four in a row. However, the left-hander began to come unglued late in the third inning, before being completely thrashed in a four-run sixth. After a rough stretch in August, Santiago was performing much better over his last four games -- a span that included three quality outings and a 1.80 ERA over 25 innings. That run came to a screeching halt while the Tigers handed him his first loss in five starts. Santiago will look to rebound when he toes the rubber Sunday versus Seattle.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Eighth straight scoreless appearance

Barnes allowed two hits and an inherited runner to score in two-thirds of an inning in Tuesday night's win over the Orioles.

Barnes was dreadful in August when he allowed 12 runs in 10.2 innings and appeared to be pitching himself out of high-leverage situations as well as any discussion about the postseason makeup of the bullpen. But with the roster expansion, manager John Farrell has been able use him less frequently and get him some rest. While Tuesday's performance wasn't ideal, it was his eighth straight scoreless outing and the rest he's gotten this month puts him in a better position for October baseball.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Throws six shutout innings in no-decision against Astros

Manaea threw six shutout innings and allowed three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in a no-decision Tuesday against the Astros.

Manaea has been excellent in two starts since returning from a back injury last week. He has thrown 11 scoreless innings with a 12:3 K:BB and just six hits allowed. Manaea has allowed 19 homers in 22 starts, but with a 116:35 K:BB, there's plenty for the rookie to work with heading into 2017.
