  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Sustains loss Saturday

Diaz (2-4) took the Mariners' loss Saturday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk. He struck out one.

Diaz got into trouble in the top of the ninth in a tie game, giving up a leadoff single and a stolen base. He then intentionally walked Yonder Alonso before allowing a ground-rule double to Ryon Healy, which proved to be the decisive blow. Diaz has had ups and downs as the Seattle closer, but had just worked back into Scott Servais' favor. Since this wasn't a save opportunity, perhaps that'll help his job security as the top option.

  • Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS

White Sox's Tommy Kahnle: Backs into Saturday win

Kahnle (1-3) allowed a run on two hits Saturday but picked up the win against the Rockies.

He allowed a leadoff triple to Mark Reynolds in the bottom of the eighth and allowed him to score on a Gerardo Parra sacrifice fly to absorb the eighth-inning blown save. Kahnle then rebounded to register a strikeout and a groundout, working around a single and a wild pitch. Tim Anderson handed him the win with a solo home run in the next half inning. Kahnle otherwise has enjoyed a successful 2017 (2.45 ERA, 56 strikeouts, seven walks in 33 innings) and would likely take over save chances should the White Sox trade closer David Robertson.

  • White Sox's David Robertson: Notches save Saturday

Robertson struck out two in a clean ninth inning to record the save Saturday against the Rockies.

It took Robertson just 13 pitches (nine strikes) to shut the door in his first opportunity since June 29. The White Sox will likely offer him up on the trade market in the coming weeks, and although Robertson has only 12 saves on the year for this rebuilding club, his deep resume will garner plenty of interest. Though perhaps a team will acquire him to be a setup piece, it's hard not to picture him as the stopper if he finds a new home.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Angels' Jesse Chavez: Saddled with loss Saturday

Chavez (5-10) allowed three runs in five innings on seven hits and two walks to absorb the loss Saturday against the Rangers. He struck out six.

The punchouts rescued an otherwise mediocre line, though they haven't helped make up for his continued mediocre seasonal production. Chavez's full-time starter role has shrunk his K/9 from 8.5 to this year's 7.0, and his 4.99 ERA at the first half's conclusion pegs him as a target for hitter streaming. Still, the Angels likely will rely on him to eat innings to buoy their injury- and disappointment-riddled rotation.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Records four outs to earn 24th save

Colome struck out one and allowed one hit and two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings against the Red Sox on Saturday to earn his 24th save of the season.

Following a stretch of five straight appearances with at least one run allowed - he allowed multiple runs in four of those - Colome has now turned in back-to-back scoreless outings. He is currently tied with Minnesota's Brandon Kintzler for the American League lead in saves.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Mops up in non-save situation

Giles allowed a walk over one scoreless inning in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Blue Jays.

Giles hadn't pitched since July 1, so manager A.J. Hinch got him some work Saturday in an extremely low-leverage situation. Since blowing a save June 6, Giles has given up one run on five hits and four walks while striking out 10 over his last nine innings.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Collects second victory Saturday

Chapman struck out the side in his only inning of work to earn the win Saturday against the Brewers.

Chapman was pitching in a non-save situation, but the Yankees came up with a rally in the bottom of the ninth to net him his second victory of the year. Although he has just eight saves and a 3.66 ERA, he'll likely be one of the top fantasy closers the rest of the way, as he's pitching for a winning squad and he's the owner of an elite skill set.

  • Indians' Shawn Armstrong: Optioned to Triple-A

Armstrong was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday.

With Carlos Santana coming off the paternity list, the Indians needed to clear a spot on the roster, and Armstrong was the casualty. He has a 4.26 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB in 19 innings with the big-league club this season. Look for him to return sometime in the second half.

  • Zach Neal RP | ATH

Athletics' Zach Neal: Throws scoreless inning Friday

Neal fired a scoreless eighth inning in a 7-2 loss to the Mariners on Friday.

Recalled from Triple-A Nashville on July 2, Neal saw action for the first time at the big-league level since June 14. The 28-year-old right-hander was roughed up by the Nationals and Rays for 12 earned runs over 7.2 innings in two appearances during his previous stint, but he'd closed out that tenure with a pair of strong outings against the Marlins. Friday's effort represented his third scoreless appearance with the Athletics this season, and he's now lowered his ERA from 10.13 to a still-bloated but improving 7.98 over his last three trips to the mound.

  • Royals' Scott Alexander: Increasing role in bullpen

Alexander has a 1.89 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 27 strikeouts across 33.1 innings this season.

The left-hander has seen higher-leverage situations since coming off the disabled list in early June, but he's only recorded two holds in that time. Alexander will often stretch beyond an inning for the Royals, and has done so in 14 of his 22 appearances this season. The 27-year-old could see more high-pressure situations, but is unlikely to unseat Mike Minor as Kansas City's top left-handed option out of the bullpen.
