Sean Newcomb RP | ATH
Athletics' Sean Newcomb: Strikes out side for save
Newcomb struck out three in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds.
This was Newcomb's second save of the season -- his other came against the Angels on Aug. 16. The Athletics are using a closing committee to finish off games since the trade deadline, and they've tallied just 31 saves overall this year, with 20 of those coming from Mason Miller prior to the deal that sent him to San Diego. Newcomb and Hogan Harris have the last four saves for the team between them, though volume will remain an issue. On the season, Newcomb has a 2.76 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 91:31 K:BB over 91.1 innings across 47 outings (five starts) between the Athletics and the Red Sox.

Cole Sands RP | MIN
Twins' Cole Sands: Escapes with win in blown save
Sands (4-4) blew the save but came away with the win Friday against the Diamondbacks, striking one while allowing four runs on four hits in one inning.
Though Sands matched a season worst in runs allowed while taking his fourth blown save of the year, the Twins were able to mount a ninth-inning rally to bail out the hurler and get him his fourth win of the season. Justin Topa (oblique) is out for at least two weeks while on the 15-day injured list, but Sands didn't help his case Friday for future save chances. Through 65.1 frames, Sands has a 4.27 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 58:16 K:BB.

Reid Detmers SP | LAA
Angels' Reid Detmers: Won't return in 2025
The Angels transferred Detmers (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Left elbow inflammation forced Detmers onto the injured list Thursday, and the Angels will officially keep him out for the rest of the season now that he's on the 60-day IL. He'll conclude his first season as a full-time reliever with a 3.96 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 63.2 innings. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A to take Detmers' 40-man roster spot and replace Andrew Chafin (triceps) in the major-league bullpen.

Connor Brogdon RP | LAA
Angels' Connor Brogdon: Selected to MLB bullpen
The Angels selected Brogdon's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.
With Andrew Chafin (triceps) headed for the injured list, Brogdon will rejoin the big club after being designated for assignment in mid-August. The 30-year-old righty has given up three earned runs in 7.1 innings since being sent to Salt Lake and is likely ticketed for low-leverage work with the Angels.

Andrew Chafin RP | LAA
Angels' Andrew Chafin: Placed on injured list
The Angels placed Chafin on the 15-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Thursday, with left triceps inflammation.
Chafin has been effective out of the bullpen since joining the Angels at the trade deadline, posting a 1.98 ERA and 1.17 WHIP alongside an 18:7 K:BB over 13.2 innings. However, he'll now be unavailable for the next two weeks after coming away from his latest appearance with a triceps issue, leaving just enough time for him to potentially come back for the final weekend of the regular season. Connor Brogdon was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the opening in the Halos' bullpen.

Casey Legumina RP | SEA
Mariners' Casey Legumina: Back with Seattle
The Mariners recalled Legumina from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday.
Legumina has fired 5.2 shutout innings while striking out eight batters since being sent down to Triple-A in mid-August. He'll now return to Seattle to take on a middle-relief role and replace Jose Castillo, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Josh Hader RP | HOU
Astros' Josh Hader: Yet to resume throwing
Hader (shoulder) has yet to resume throwing, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Hader has yet to resume throwing since being shut down Aug. 15 due to a left shoulder capsule injury. The 31-year-old previously indicated that he'd need roughly three weeks to ramp up once cleared to throw. It's unclear when he'll start throwing at this point, but his postseason availability will be threatened if he doesn't begin soon.

Sawyer Gipson-Long SP | DET
Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Placed on injured list
The Tigers placed Gipson-Long on the 15-day injured list Friday against Miami due to neck stiffness.
Gipson-Long gave up seven runs in 2.1 innings in a start Thursday, and he'll now head to the injured list. Gipson-Long will be eligible for reinstatement Sept. 27, one day before the Tigers' final regular-season contest. Detroit activated Jose Urquidy (elbow) from the injured list in a corresponding move, but it's unclear who'll take Gipson-Long's spot in the rotation.

Beau Brieske RP | DET
Tigers' Beau Brieske: Recalled, placed on 60-day IL
The Tigers recalled Brieske (forearm) from Triple-A Toledo on Friday and placed him on the 60-day injured list.
Brieske has already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2025 campaign due to a right forearm strain, so the Tigers will perform a bit of roster manipulation that will allow the team to give the 27-year-old's 40-man spot to the newly activated Jose Urquidy (elbow). Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck) was also placed on the 15-day IL as part of Friday's roster moves.
