  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Records another save

Diaz struck out the side to record his 27th save of the season Saturday against the Red Sox.

Diaz wasted no time preserving the Mariners' 1-0 win, striking out Brock Holt, Jackie Bradley and Mookie Betts. He has now recorded eight consecutive scoreless appearances, during which he has managed 12 strikeouts across 8.1 innings. With 27 saves in 30 chances, Diaz outpaces Craig Kimbrel for the major-league lead in saves by five.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Lasts only 3.2 innings

Yarbrough (5-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on six hits over 3.2 innings. He struck out four and issued three walks.

Yarbrough struggled with his command Saturday, throwing only 56 of 97 pitches for strikes en route to a short performance. The 26-year-old has allowed four earned runs in each of his last three outings, although Saturday was the first of those performances he was handed a loss. Yarbrough is next lined up to face the Yankees again Friday.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Records 20th save

Chapman earned his 20th save of the season with one strikeout during a clean ninth inning Saturday against the Rays.

Chasen Shreve started the ninth inning by given up a home run and a triple, but Chapman entered the game and did not allow the baserunner to score. The 30-year-old has blown only one save in 2018 and has a 1.17 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with 53 strikeouts across 30.2 innings.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Hits DL again

May was placed on the disabled list with right shoulder inflammation Saturday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

May hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2016, having suffered a long list of injuries. He missed the entirety of the 2017 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and his return this year has now been delayed by both elbow and shoulder issues.

  • Carlos Ramirez RP | CHC

Athletics' Carlos Ramirez: Sent right back to Triple-A

Ramirez was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

Ramirez was called up Thursday and threw four innings in two days, allowing a pair of runs on a hit and three walks while striking out two batters. Josh Lucas was promoted from Nashville to take his spot in the bullpen.

  • Twins' Fernando Rodney: Grabs one-out save Friday

Rodney struck out the only batter he faced to collect his 15th save of the season in Friday's 6-3 win over Cleveland.

The Twins took a 6-1 lead into the ninth inning, but after Trevor Rogers coughed up a couple of runs, manager Paul Molitor elected to take no chances and brought in his closer. The 41-year-old Rodney has converted 15 of 18 save chances this season, and his 3.09 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB through 23.1 innings would be solid numbers for a pitcher a decade younger.

  • Jakob Junis RP | TEX

Royals' Jakob Junis: Allows six runs in loss Friday

Junis (5-7) allowed six runs on seven hits in a loss to the Astros on Friday, striking out three and walking one in 5.1 innings.

Junis surrendered three home runs in Friday's contest, the biggest one being a grand slam off the bat of Evan Gattis that knocked him out of the game. Junis has lost his last four consecutive starts despite having two quality starts in the span. The right-hander holds a respectable 79:20 K:BB in 85.1 innings, but he's surrendered 18 home runs on the year (which ties him for second-most allowed in the majors). He'll look to right the ship in his next start at home against the Rangers.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Blows save in loss

Barnes (0-2) took the loss and blew the save against the Mariners on Friday, giving up two earned runs on two hits with two strikeouts and a walk over his one inning of work in a 7-6 defeat for the Red Sox.

Barnes couldn't hold a 6-5 lead, relinquishing Boston's one-run advantage by giving up what turned out to be a game-winning two-run double to Denard Span. He's still putting up great numbers this season with a 2.93 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in 30.2 innings, but he's been vulnerable of late, giving up four earned runs over his last three appearances.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Gets 26th save

Diaz worked around a hit and a walk, recording one strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning to bag his 26th save of the season in Seattle's 7-6 victory over the Red Sox on Friday.

The flame-throwing righty made it an interesting ninth inning by allowing a leadoff single to J.D. Martinez and walking Xander Bogaerts, but he was able to work out of the jam and induce an Eduardo Nunez groundout to end the game. Diaz has been getting a ton of opportunities pitching for a Mariners team that seems intent on playing as many close games as possible, so as long as his teammates continue their taste for late-game theatrics, Diaz should continue to rack up saves at his league-leading pace.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Shuts down Rays in MLB debut

Loaisiga (1-0) struck out six and picked up the win in Friday's 5-0 victory over the Rays, allowing three hits and four walks over five scoreless innings.

The rookie's control deserted him at times, not surprising for a 23-year-old making his big-league debut in pinstripes in Yankee Stadium, but Loaisiga was impressive when he was getting the ball over the plate, generating 17 swinging strikes out of 91 pitches (57 total strikes). Depending on how quickly Masahiro Tanaka (hamstring) gets healthy, Loaisiga could make two or more starts, with his next outing set for Wednesday at home against the Mariners.
