  • Blake Treinen RP | LAD

Athletics' Blake Treinen: Notches 23rd save Monday

Treinen worked around two hits to finish a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save Monday against Houston.

Treinen struck out a pair, the 16th time this year he has struck out multiple batters. He now has 19 saves in a row dating back to April 18 -- a game in which he stayed in for two scoreless innings after blowing the save in an eventual extra-innings win for the Athletics. Treinen owns a 0.79 ERA and has earned his All-Star appearance with a brilliant first half.

  • Yankees' Giovanny Gallegos: Records three-inning save

Gallegos allowed two runs on two hits and two walks across three innings but came away with a save in Monday's win over the Orioles.

Called up earlier in the day to serve as the 26th man for the doubleheader, Gallegos didn't pitch particularly well but qualified for the save on a technicality. He's likely headed back down to the minor leagues until the Yanks need an extra arm again.

  • Orioles' Jimmy Yacabonis: Sent back to minors

Yacabonis was shipped to Triple-A Norfolk following Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He allowed three runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out six across five innings, as he didn't factor into the decision of Game 1.

Yacabonis surrendered three runs in the first three frames, but he managed to settle down and blank the Yankees in his final two innings before being lifted with a one-run deficit. Through two starts this season, he's given up five runs over nine innings while fanning 10. Following Monday's outing, Yacabonis will head to Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Drew VerHagen RP | STL

Tigers' Drew VerHagen: Looks solid in return

VerHagen allowed no runs on one hit and one walk while fanning three across 2.2 innings in his first outing since June 19.

VerHagen was having a rough go of it prior to landing on the disabled list, as he'd surrendered one or more runs in seven of his last 10 outings before suffering a broken nose. He'll look to turn it around as he sits with an alarming 8.02 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 21 strikeouts over 21.1 innings.

  • Jakob Junis RP | TEX

Royals' Jakob Junis: Not expected back before break

Royals manager Ned Yost said Sunday that Junis' back injury isn't considered serious, but the right-hander isn't expected to be activated from the 10-day disabled list until after the All-Star break, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Junis was scratched from his scheduled turn in the rotation Sunday against the Red Sox and was placed on the DL after being diagnosed with lower-back inflammation, resulting in long reliever Heath Fillmyer picking up his first MLB start. With Junis having posted an 8.13 ERA over his six outings since June, Yost likely reasoned that the second-year pitcher could probably benefit from a more extended rest while healing up from the back injury. The Royals have an open date in the schedule Thursday and are expected to move Fillmyer back to the bullpen and get by with a four-man rotation until after the break.

  • Cory Gearrin RP | NYY

    Rangers' Cory Gearrin: Active Monday

Gearrin was added to the active roster prior to Monday's game against the Red Sox.

The Rangers traded for Gearrin from the Giants over the weekend, and he will be in uniform and active for this series against Texas. Gearrin notched a 4.20 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 31 strikeouts in 30 innings of relief for the Giants prior to the trade.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Available for save Monday

Chapman (knee) will likely be used if a save situation arises Monday in Baltimore, Coley Harvey of ESPN.com reports.

His knee tendinitis is still present, and the plan is for him to attempt to continue to play through the issue for the rest of the season, possibly getting some maintenance days in when possible. Fantasy owners will have to deploy Chapman, given this intel, knowing that he may not get 100 percent of the save chances the rest of the way. David Robertson has emerged as the favorite to close games when Chapman needs a day off.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Shut down for three weeks

Loaisiga (shoulder) received a cortisone shot and will be shut down for a few weeks, Marc Carig of The Athletic New York reports.

No structural damage was found, but the talented rookie is dealing with inflammation. There's a chance that even though this shoulder injury will cost Loaisiga at least a month in the middle of the season, it may not actually impact his total innings pitched in 2018, as he has thrown 63 innings between the minors and majors, and only threw 32.2 innings in 2017. He will miss most if not all of July, and will then have to go on a rehab assignment before potentially rejoining the big-league club in mid-to-late August.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Available out of bullpen

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Kelly (illness) was available out of the bullpen during Sunday's 7-4 win over the Royals.

Kelly experienced some lightheadedness during his appearance Saturday, but felt considerably better after hydrating overnight. He ultimately wasn't used in the series finale, but Cora stressed that Kelly's absence was mostly precautionary with the Red Sox getting extra reinforcement for the bullpen with the additions of callups William Cuevas and Ryan Brasier. Kelly, who maintains a 3.41 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 39 appearances on the season, should reprise his setup role Monday against the Rangers if the contest is competitive.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Hopeful to return before break

Johnson downplayed the inflamed left hip that resulted in his placement on the 10-day disabled list Sunday and expects to rejoin the Red Sox before the All-Star break, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

Johnson stressed that the hip injury didn't affect him during his third start of the season July 3 against the Nationals, with the right-hander instead indicating he didn't experience any soreness until waking up the next day. Despite being moved to the DL, Johnson was still able to play catch off flat ground Sunday and could throw a bullpen session within a few days. If all goes well, Johnson would likely line up for a return to the rotation July 15 in the club's final game of the first half. The Red Sox will need a replacement starter for Johnson on Tuesday against the Rangers, with long reliever Hector Velazquez representing the leading candidate to fill the opening.
