Caleb Frare RP | NYY
White Sox's Caleb Frare: Contract selected by White Sox
Frare had his contract purchased by the White Sox on Saturday.
Frare spent the bulk of the season at Double-A Trenton with the Yankees -- where he dominated with a 0.62 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 57:15 K:BB over 43.2 innings -- before being acquired by the White Sox. The 25-year-old similarly allowed only one run across 12.2 innings with Triple-A Charlotte and now will join the White Sox bullpen for the final month of the season.

Aaron Bummer RP | KC
White Sox's Aaron Bummer: Joins big-league club
Bummer was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
Bummer last saw the majors in early June and had a solid 3.26 ERA and 21:6 K:BB over 19.1 innings. The 24-year-old did allow a .321 opponent batting average and a 1.71 WHIP, which suggests some regression is likely in order. The 24-year-old could be used as a situational left-hander for the White Sox.

Liam Hendriks RP | CHC
Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Will serve as opener Saturday
Hendriks was recalled from Triple-A Nashville and will serve as the opener against the Mariners on Saturday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Hendriks hasn't had much luck in the majors yet this season, allowing nine runs and 17 hits over 11 innings. The Athletics are hoping he can replicate the 2.84 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 43:4 K:BB the 29-year-old posted over 25.1 innings with the Sounds. Daniel Mengden will serve as the primary pitcher once Hendriks completes his opener duties.

Daniel Mengden RP | KC
Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Serving as primary pitcher Saturday
Mengden won't start Saturday's game against the Mariners but will serve as the Athletics' primary pitcher after Liam Hendriks opens the game, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Mengden was set to take over for Brett Anderson (forearm) in the starting rotation, but the Athletics will instead opt to use Hendriks as an opener. Mengden fired four scoreless innings while relieving Anderson on Monday and has a 4.47 ERA over 16 starts in the majors this season. It remains unclear if this is a one-time strategy for the Athletics or something they plan to utilize on a regular basis.

Cionel Perez RP | NYM
Astros' Cionel Perez: Returns to majors
Perez was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Saturday.
Perez has been in the majors for a couple stints this season and will join the Astros again with September's expanded roster. The 22-year-old has allowed three runs on four hits over seven innings for Houston while posting a 2.08 ERA and 1.18 WHIP between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
-
Zac Curtis RP | PHI
Rangers' Zac Curtis: Joins Rangers
Curtis was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Curtis will join the Rangers for the first time since being claimed in early August. The 26-year-old has a career 3.73 ERA and 1.63 WHIP over 31.1 innings and adds to the Rangers' bullpen depth with September's expanded rosters.

Rob Whalen RP | SEA
Mariners' Rob Whalen: DFA'd by Mariners
Whalen was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Whalen made one appearance with the Mariners this season, allowing one hit and one walk over four scoreless innings in June. The 24-year-old has a 5.48 ERA and 1.62 WHIP over 110 minor-league innings this season.

Aroldis Chapman RP | BOS
Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Return timetable remains murky
Chapman (knee) has no official timetable for his return and general manager Brian Cashman indicated the Yankees aren't sure he will be able to return this season, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Surgery apparently isn't on the table for Chapman at this point and the Yankees currently expect him to return this season, but the uncertainly of the situation remains worrisome. The veteran left-hander received multiple PRP injections in his left knee over the last week of August, and the knee's response to said injections in the coming days could provide some indication of his progress or lack thereof.
-
Mark Leiter RP | ATH
Blue Jays' Mark Leiter: Claimed by Blue Jays
Leiter was claimed off waivers by Toronto on Saturday.
The 27-year-old has a 5.03 ERA in 107.1 career major-league innings, though his underlying numbers are respectable. His 8.1 percent career walk rate is roughly average, while his 20.3 percent strikeout rate is slightly below average and his 49.1 percent groundball rate is above average, suggesting that he could at least be a competent swingman.

Zack Littell RP | ARI
Twins' Zack Littell: Expected to start Sunday
The Twins are expected to promote LIttell from Triple-A Rochester to start Sunday against the Rangers, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 St. Paul reports.
Littell wasn't included among the wave of September callups the Twins announced following Friday's game, but it sounds like he'll be officially added to the active roster ahead of the series finale and slot in as Minnesota's sixth starter. The 22-year-old has previously made two appearances (one start) with the Twins, giving up seven runs on seven hits and six walks across 3.1 innings. Littell isn't regarded as a high-end prospect, so he likely won't be worthy of much attention outside of most AL-only formats until his numbers warrant a longer look.
