Borucki underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his left elbow and will miss the rest of the 2019 season, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

Borucki ominously had his case reviewed by Dr. James Andrews, but he received good news and will avoid Tommy John surgery. 2019 is a season to forget for the 25-year-old as he pitched only 6.2 innings after being sidelined the first half of the year with an elbow injury. Borucki expects to be ready to go for spring training.

Manaea (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Manaea had his rehab assignment paused last weekend but resumed throwing Wednesday and will make a quick return to mound work. The 27-year-old was set to make one more rehab start for Triple-A Las Vegas before rejoining the Athletics, and his quick return to the mound indicates his timetable likely hasn't changed too much.

Mantiply was acquired by the Yankees from the Reds for cash considerations Friday.

Mantiply missed the 2018 season due to Tommy John surgery and debuted for Triple-A Louisville in mid-June. The 28-year-old has a 3.72 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26:3 K:BB at Triple-A over 29 innings, and he'll remain at that level with his new organization.

Lopez lasted just 1.1 innings in a no-decision against the Tigers on Thursday, giving up five runs (four earned) on two hits, striking out two and walking three as the Royals lost 10-8.

Making his first start since May 25, Lopez turned in another rough outing, as he was blasted by the Tigers before getting chased from the contest after recording just four outs. It's been a forgettable season for the 26-year-old, as he now sports a 6.51 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP across 85.2 innings.

Hand picked up the save Thursday after holding the Twins scoreless over 1.1 innings despite allowing two hits and a pair of walks.

After the Twins chipped away with three runs in the eighth inning, Hand was called upon to record the final out and protect what was left of a 6-5 lead. The southpaw intentionally walked Luis Arraez, then forced Marwin Gonzalez to fly out and end the frame. Trouble knocked again in the ninth after Hand loaded the bases with a pair of singles and another intentional walk, but he slammed the door by getting Eddie Rosario to fly out. Hand has been a reliable asset for the Indians this year, posting a 2.28 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 73:13 K:BB with 29 saves.

Peters (2-1) allowed three runs on five hits and one walk across six innings while taking the loss Thursday against the Red Sox. He struck out eight.

Two swings of the bat accounted for the major damage against Peters, including a two-run home run from Sam Travis in the second inning and a solo shot from Sandy Leon in the fifth. Otherwise, he pitched quite well, tying his career high in strikeouts while turning in a quality start. Peters' second straight strong outing lowered his ERA to 3.45 heading into next week's home matchup against the Pirates.

Johnson will start Friday against the Angels, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Johnson will join the rotation in place of the injured David Price, who was placed on the injured list with a wrist injury Thursday. The swingman pitched three innings during Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Yankees in what was his first appearance with the big club since June 22, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out two batters and issuing zero walks.

Axford (elbow) suffered a setback and will not join Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Specifics regarding the setback are not yet known, but it could help explain why Axford hasn't made a rehab appearance since tossing a scoreless inning for Toronto's Gulf Coast League team near the end of July. The Blue Jays are currently trying to determine the next steps for the veteran reliever, who has been sidelined all season with a stress reaction in his elbow.

Smith was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Smith will provide the Indians with a fresh bullpen arm after the team deployed seven relievers during Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rangers. In six appearances with Cleveland this season, Smith has compiled a 5.40 ERA, 2.40 WHIP and nine strikeouts across five innings. Hunter Wood was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.

Axford (elbow) will continue his rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
