Adams exited Saturday's contest after injuring his ankle while covering first base, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.

Adams was able to face only two batters in the seventh inning prior to suffering the injury. The severity is still unknown, though it's unlikely the Mariners would push him to return this season if any lingering concerns remain.

Hand (arm) is available to pitch again Saturday but will not pitch in a save situation, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports.

Manager Terry Francona said Hand "looked himself" in a bullpen session Wednesday, but apparently the skipper still needs to see Hand do it in a game once or twice before reinstalling him in the ninth. Adam Cimber, Oliver Perez and Carlos Carrasco have gotten the Indians' last three saves. Nick Wittgren and James Karinchak are also candidates to get the ball in high-leverage situations.

Jurado is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

After Jurado was lit up for 11 runs in 5.2 innings over his previous two turns through the rotation, the Rangers elected to shift him to a bullpen role this week. Jurado tossed a scoreless frame in relief Friday against the Athletics in what will essentially function as a between-starts bullpen session before he slots back into the rotation in the first game of the Rangers' season-ending homestand. Texas has yet to decide whether Jurado will make a traditional start Tuesday or work behind an opener.

Palumbo will start next Friday against the Yankees, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Palumbo hasn't thrown many innings since the middle of August, so don't expect a long outing for the rookie. That he's being slotted in for a start over the final week of the season is a sign Palumbo's in line to open 2020 as a member of the rotation along with Mike Minor and Lance Lynn.

Barria (4-10) took the loss Friday as the Angels fell 6-4 to the Astros, coughing up six runs on eight hits -- including four home runs -- over 2.2 innings. He struck out one.

Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Alex Bregman all took the right-hander deep in the first inning, before Correa launched an encore in the third. Barria has lost three straight starts and seven straight decisions, but he'll get one more chance to get back in the win column in 2019 when he takes a 6.43 ERA and 71:25 K:BB through 78.1 innings into Thursday's rematch with the Astros back in Anaheim.

Pressly worked a perfect inning while striking out two to record a hold in Friday's 6-4 win over the Angels.

Pressly returned to active duty Friday after recovering from knee surgery that kept him out of action since Aug. 20. He slotted back into his normal role as part of the setup crew for closer Roberto Osuna.

Giles didn't allow a baserunner and struck out two during the ninth inning to record his 21st save in a win over the Yankees on Friday.

The 28-year-old gave up a run in his prior outing, but he pushed his ERA back below 2.00 with his latest scoreless inning. Giles has pitched very well over the last month, posting a 2.08 ERA with six saves and no blown opportunities in his last 13 appearances. Overall, Giles is 2-3 with a 1.98 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 79 strikeouts in 50 innings this season.

Pagan blew the save after surrendering two runs on two hits while striking out one over one inning Friday against the Red Sox.

Pagan was called on in the top of the ninth inning with a two-run lead, but he'd give up a two-run homer to tie the game on the way to his eighth blown save of the 2019 campaign. Fortunately, his team would plate the winning run two innings later. The 28-year-old has now given up three runs in his last two outings (three innings), though he owns a 2.43 ERA and 0.83 WHIP with 92 strikeouts over 66.2 innings this year.

Lakins will serve as the opener for Saturday's game against the Rays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Lakins figures to toss the first inning or two before handing the ball to the primary pitcher. The Red Sox have yet to announce who will work in that role.

May tossed a perfect ninth inning Friday, striking out all three batters he faced to earn his second save of the year in a 4-3 win over the Royals.

Both Taylor Rogers and Sergio Romo had made four appearances in the last week, so May was called on for this save. He did not disappoint, whiffing Ryan O'Hearn, Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi in order. May has allowed three runs over 9.2 innings in September, right in line with his season ERA of 3.08. He's recorded a 76:25 K:BB and 15 holds in 61.1 innings this year.
