Pivetta (1-0) earned the win Tuesday against the Orioles. He allowed one run on four hits and three walks while fanning eight across five innings.

Pivetta was recalled ahead of Tuesday's start and impressed in his debut with the Red Sox, fanning eight and looking dominant on the mound most of the time. The Red Sox want to check what they have in Pivetta, so he figures to be in line to pitch in the team's season finale Sunday against Atlanta.

Barnes picked up the save Tuesday against the Orioles after recording the final out of the game.

Dylan Covey got the ball in the ninth and held a five-run lead, but manager Ron Roenicke had to turn to Barnes after Covey loaded the bases with two outs. Barnes needed just three pitches to close the game out -- he induced a pop out in foul territory from Pedro Severino -- and that qualified as his ninth save of the campaign. Barnes should hold down the closer role in the final games of the 2020 regular season.

Akin (1-2) was tagged with the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits while fanning six across four innings.

Akin has averaged 7.25 strikeouts per outing across his last four starts, something quite impressive considering he hasn't pitched more than 5.1 innings in any of those games. The ability to miss bats is clearly there and he is also getting results, as he has allowed more than three earned runs just once all year long.

Mayers earned the save against San Diego on Tuesday, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings in which he gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two.

Mayers was brought in to protect a two-run lead with the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning and retired two of the three batters he faced to keep the Padres off the scoreboard. He then allowed a leadoff single in the ninth before inducing a double-play groundout and a strikeout to close out the win. It was the second straight multi-inning save for Mayers, who had been used primarily in a setup role prior to this week. He has not allowed a run in nearly a month and has posted a minuscule 0.35 ERA over his last 24 appearances covering 26 innings.

Phillips was removed from Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox with right elbow soreness, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

The 26-year-old didn't record an out in 17 pitches Tuesday, giving up three runs on two hits and two walks. Phillips battled elbow issues in the spring and early summer, but it's unclear if the current soreness is related. He'll be further evaluated Wednesday.

Manaea, who is scheduled to make his final start of the regular season Wednesday against the Dodgers, is a likely candidate to also start the Athletics' first playoff game next week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Gallegos suggests Manaea's strong work since mid-August -- he owns a 4-1 record, 2.45 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across his last six starts -- makes him the best option at manager Bob Melvin's disposal as the postseason approaches. The left-hander found himself in a similar position last season, as he put together a 4-0 September after returning from a shoulder injury and was named the starter for the AL Wild Card Game against the Rays, an outing in which he allowed three home runs over two innings in what was a 5-1 Athletics loss.

Lopez didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-3 extra-inning loss to Cleveland, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out three.

A solo shot by Cesar Hernandez was the only blemish on his performance, and the White Sox took Lopez off the hook for a potential loss with a run in the top of the sixth inning. The right-hander has been solid since his return to the rotation, posting a 2.35 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 11:4 K:BB over three starts and 15.1 innings, and he'll make one more trip to the mound during the regular season in Sunday's finale against the Cubs.

Colome delivered a scoreless inning during Tuesday's loss to the Indians and didn't return for a second frame due to back spasms, Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

The veteran righty needed only six pitches to retire the side in the ninth to force extra innings and was set to return for the bottom of the 10th after Chicago took the lead, but the back spasms prevented him from retaking the mound. Colome should be considered day-to-day, and the White Sox are likely to remain cautious with their closer in the final days of the regular season with a playoff berth already secured.

Zimmermann will be moved to the bullpen for the remainder of the regular season, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Zimmermann made his major-league debut as a starter Thursday when he settled for a no-decision. However, he'll shift to the bullpen for the remainder of the season as manager Brandon Hyde said he'll try to use him in situations where he can pitch for several innings.

Mengden cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Mengden lost his spot on the 40-man roster Sunday after being activated from the COVID-19 injured list, but he'll remain in the organization going forward. It's unclear whether the right-hander will be included in the Athletics' player pool heading into the postseason. Mengden posted a 3.65 ERA and 1.70 WHIP across 12.1 innings spanning four appearances in 2020.
