Howard allowed five earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out three across two innings Thursday against the Mariners. He did not factor into the decision.

Howard was seemingly in line for a more traditional starting role in this appearance after serving as a tandem starter with Taylor Hearn in each of his last two outings. However, Howard was hit hard early and was denied the opportunity to work even into the middle of the game. In three appearances since joining the Rangers, Howard has allowed eight earned runs across 7.1 frames while striking out nine and walking three.

Trivino allowed allowed one unearned run on one hit and also struck out one to earn the save Thursday against the White Sox.

Trivino allowed a leadoff single but retired the next two batters he faced. He should have gotten out of the inning without a run crossing the plate, but the leadoff runner came around to score on an error by Elvis Andrus. Even so, Trivino managed to record the final out to lock in his 20th save of the season. He's now gone nine consecutive outings without allowing an earned run, which has brought his ERA down to 1.75 across 56.2 frames on the campaign.

Green allowed one earned run on one hit while striking out two in the ninth inning, earning the save in the win over the Twins on Thursday.

Green entered in the ninth inning with a three-run lead and surrendered a solo home run to Miguel Sano, but he managed to retire the other three batters to earn his sixth save of the season. Aroldis Chapman was reinstated from the injured list Wednesday but struggled in his return, providing Green another ninth-inning opportunity Thursday. He's picked up three saves in his last three appearances since blowing two leads earlier in August, though he's unlikely to see regular save chances now that Chapman is healthy. Green carries a 3.13 ERA and 0.85 WHIP with a 10.4 K/9 in 63.1 innings.

Fulmer (5-5) allowed three runs on three hits in one inning of work to take the loss Thursday against the Angels. He walked one and struck out one.

Fulmer came on in the seventh inning and allowed an inherited runner to score before getting out of the frame. However, things really got out of hand in the eighth as the Angels scored three times, with the key play a two-run home run by Max Stassi. Fulmer saw his ERA climb from 3.26 to 3.73 after the rough outing, though he should remain in the late-inning mix with the Tigers not having a dominant closer. Gregory Soto and Jose Cisnero should also continue to see save opportunities.

Junis (undisclosed) was reinstated from the 7-day minor-league injured list Thursday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Junis had been on the injured list since July 9, although the nature of his injury still isn't clear. However, the right-hander recently began a rehab assignment and allowed three runs in 5.1 innings across three starts in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. He'll start Thursday's game at Triple-A Omaha now that he's fully healthy.

Bolanos' (elbow) rehab assignment has been transferred to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Bolanos appeared in his first rehab game Aug. 13 and has allowed six runs in 2.1 innings across two relief appearances since then. The right-hander is scheduled to pitch at Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Friday as he continues to ramp up following his two-month absence due to a right flexor strain.

Barraclough's contract was selected by the Twins on Thursday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Barraclough signed a minor-league contract with the Twins in mid-June and posted a 2.86 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 22 innings across 18 relief appearances at Triple-A St. Paul. The 31-year-old will now be available to make his first major-league appearance since 2019 as part of Minnesota's bullpen.

Lopez (3-14) was charged with the loss Thursday against the Rays after surrendering four runs on four hits and a pair of walks while striking out two across two innings.

Lopez just didn't have it Thursday, allowing his first four runners to reach while walking in the first run of the game. The second inning didn't get any better for the 28-year-old, whose fastball velocity was down in the short outing. Lopez has given up 11 runs in just 5.1 innings over his last two starts, taking the loss in both while becoming the first major-league pitcher to be tagged with 14 losses this year. The right-hander's struggles raise his ERA to 6.35 and WHIP to 1.68. He's projected to take on the Angels at home next week.

Manager Aaron Boone said Holmes (illness) will rejoin the Yankees on Thursday but won't be activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of the team's series opener versus the Twins, Max Goodman of SI.com reports.

After testing positive for COVID-19 early last week and going into quarantine, Holmes has since cleared all health and safety protocols and is able to resume working out. The Yankees plan to have Holmes throw a bullpen session Friday as a final test of his health, so he likely won't be activated until Saturday at the earliest. Holmes has posted a 4.47 ERA over 51 relief appearances between the Pirates and Yankees this season.

Chapman allowed one run on two hits and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning against Boston on Wednesday.

The veteran closer made his first appearance since going on the injured list with an elbow issue Aug. 7. He was summoned in the ninth inning with the Yankees up by four runs, but he couldn't get through the frame. Chapman served up a home run to Hunter Renfroe before allowing two additional baserunners to bring the tying run to the plate. New York then turned to Lucas Luetge, who notched his first save in nine years. Despite the rough outing, Chapman is unlikely to face any challenges to his closer role, especially since he has converted each of his past seven save chances.
