Mejia was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Mejia has pinballed between the majors and Triple-A multiple times in the last week. The rookie right-hander will likely remain near the top of the list for potential call-ups if Cleveland needs another arm in its bullpen.

Perez allowed two hits and struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader versus Kansas City.

The southpaw ended up getting more outs than any of Cleveland's five other pitchers in the contest. Perez has appeared in three games this year, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He's expected to continue in a low-leverage role going forward.

Wittgren (2-8) took the loss in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader versus Kansas City. He allowed two runs on a hit and three walks in two-thirds of an inning.

The right-hander lacked control early on, walking three straight batters after Nicky Lopez's one-out double in the first inning. Wittgren threw just 14 of 30 pitches for strikes in his first turn as an opener. He's pitched to a 5.05 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 58:16 K:BB across 57 innings. He's added a save and nine holds, but the 30-year-old's rough season has kept him in mainly low-leverage spots.

Payamps allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings in the nightcap of Monday's doubleheader versus Cleveland. He did not factor in the decision.

The right-hander logged the most innings of the five Kansas City pitchers in the contest. Payamps' lone mistake was a third-inning solo home run by Andres Gimenez. Through 16 innings with the Royals, Payamps owns a 3.94 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB. He's gone 1-1 with a hold in 12 appearances since he was traded from Toronto, mainly in a multi-inning relief role.

Manaea (10-10) was tagged with the loss Monday against the Mariners after allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk while fanning three across five innings.

Manaea has been struggling of late and has given up nine runs across his last two starts (10 innings), but the lack of effectiveness on the mound isn't anything new -- he has given up three or more runs in six of his last nine appearances since the beginning of August. Manaea, who only has two quality starts in that span, has also posted a 6.95 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP over 44 innings in that stretch.

Sewald pitched 1.2 scoreless innings and recorded the save Monday against the Athletics, striking out three.

Sewald recorded his third straight scoreless appearance, and it was also the third straight outing in which he recorded more than three outs. The right-hander has gone 9-for-13 in save chances this season and has also racked up 13 holds, so he should remain a reliable late-inning arm for the Mariners ahead of the final weeks of the regular season.

Barlow recorded his 14th save of the season in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Cleveland, giving up a run on one hit while striking out two in the seventh inning.

The right-hander entered the seventh with a three-run cushion, but he served up a solo shot to Bobby Bradley before closing out a 4-2 win. Barlow has converted eight of nine save chances since Aug. 18, posting a 1.35 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB through 13.1 innings over that stretch as the primary option for saves in the Kansas City bullpen.

Barria (2-4) was tagged with the loss Monday against the Astros after allowing two runs on 10 hits while fanning five across 5.1 innings.

Barria gave up a season-worst mark in hits in this outing, and while he was able to limit the damage once again, he allowed hard contact all game long. He hasn't been able to clinch a win since the beginning of August, posting a 0-4 record with a 5.14 ERA over his last eight appearances. On the bright side, he has given up two or fewer runs in four of his last five starts.

Tapia (3-0) picked up the win in the second game of Monday's doubleheader sweep of Cleveland, striking out four over 1.2 perfect innings of relief.

The Royals went with a bullpen game in the nightcap, and after Joel Payamps gave up a run over 2.1 innings as the starter, Tapia entered the game with Kansas City already ahead in an eventual 4-2 victory. The 30-year-old right-hander has a 1.63 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 24:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings since joining the Royals' bullpen in late July, recording five holds in addition to his three wins.

Alexy (2-1) allowed four runs on four hits and six walks over 3.1 innings Monday, striking out one batter and taking a loss against the Yankees.

Alexy struggled with his command all evening, throwing just 46-of-83 pitches for strikes. He coughed up a solo home run to Gary Sanchez in the second inning before the Yankees brought three runs in during the third. He's given up 10 runs in just seven innings (12.86 ERA) over his last two outings. Alexy is currently projected to face the Orioles on the road this weekend.
