  • Kyle Nelson RP | ATL

Guardians' Kyle Nelson: Removed from 40-man roster

Nelson was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Friday.

Nelson posted a 9.31 ERA and 1.86 WHIP in 9.2 innings across 10 appearances in the majors last year. He spent the second half of the season at Triple-A Columbus and will now be cast off the 40-man roster.

  • Guardians' J.C. Mejia: Designated for assignment

Mejia was designated for assignment by Cleveland on Friday.

Mejia was shuffled between the major-league club and Triple-A Columbus in 2021. He made 17 appearances (11 starts) in his first taste of big-league action but had a lackluster 8.25 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 52.1 innings. The right-hander will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Justin Garza RP | NYM

Guardians' Justin Garza: DFA'd by Guardians

Garza was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Friday.

Garza made his major-league debut in 2021 and logged a 4.71 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 28.2 innings across 21 appearances. However, he'll now lose his spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Collin Snider RP | CHC

Royals' Collin Snider: Added to 40-man roster

Snider was added to Kansas City's 40-man roster Friday.

Snider is a minor-league reliever who projects to pitch in low-leverage situations for the big-league club at some point next summer.

  • Royals' Jonathan Bowlan: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Bowlan (elbow) was added to Kansas City's 40-man roster Friday.

While Bowlan made just four starts at Double-A last season, he seemed poised for a breakout campaign before needing Tommy John surgery in late-May/early-June. If he can make a full recovery, Bowlan could pitch in minor-league games before the end of the 2022 season.

  • Guardians' Konnor Pilkington: Shielded from Rule 5 draft

Pilkington was added to Cleveland's 40-man roster Friday.

The headliner in the deadline deal that sent Cesar Hernandez to the White Sox, Pilkington is one of several Cleveland pitching prospects in the upper levels who could debut next season. That said, he is probably behind Cody Morris, at the very least, in the pecking order.

  • Cody Morris RP | NYY

Guardians' Cody Morris: Added to 40-man roster

Morris was added to Cleveland's 40-man roster Friday.

This move was a certainty, as Morris put up video game numbers at Double-A (1.35 ERA, 1.05 WHIP) and Triple-A (1.72 ERA, 1.02 WHIP) last season. He has a four-pitch mix headlined by a plus fastball and plus changeup and should get a chance in the big-league rotation whenever a spot opens up next season.

  • Yankees' Stephen Ridings: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Ridings was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster Friday.

He made five appearances in the majors last season and made his way back onto the 40-man prior to the Rule 5 draft. Ridings projects as a low-to-mid-leverage reliever.

  • Elvis Peguero RP | CHW

Angels' Elvis Peguero: Contract selected Friday

Peguero's contract was selected by the Angels on Friday.

Peguero was cast off the 40-man roster in mid-September but will now have his contract selected to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He made his first three major-league appearances in 2021 and allowed seven runs in 2.1 innings.

  • DL Hall RP | MIL

Orioles' DL Hall: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Hall was added to Baltimore's 40-man roster Friday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

This was a forgone conclusion, as Hall is Baltimore's second-best pitching prospect. He suffered a stress reaction in his elbow in July but returned for fall instructs. Hall will need to improve his command and stay healthy in order to reach his lofty ceiling.
