  • Elvis Peguero RP | CHW

Angels' Elvis Peguero: Contract selected Friday

Peguero's contract was selected by the Angels on Friday.

Peguero was cast off the 40-man roster in mid-September but will now have his contract selected to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He made his first three major-league appearances in 2021 and allowed seven runs in 2.1 innings.

  • DL Hall RP | MIL

Orioles' DL Hall: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Hall was added to Baltimore's 40-man roster Friday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

This was a forgone conclusion, as Hall is Baltimore's second-best pitching prospect. He suffered a stress reaction in his elbow in July but returned for fall instructs. Hall will need to improve his command and stay healthy in order to reach his lofty ceiling.

  • Hagen Danner RP | CIN

Blue Jays' Hagen Danner: Bumped up to 40-man roster

Danner's contract was selected by the Blue Jays on Friday, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Danner advanced to High-A Vancouver in 2021 and logged a 2.02 ERA and 0.93 WHIP in 35.2 innings across 25 relief appearances. He'll now be protected from the Rule 5 draft.

  • Bowden Francis RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Bowden Francis: Protected from Rule 5 draft

Francis was added to Toronto's 40-man roster Friday.

The 25-year-old righty had a 4.19 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 73 innings at Triple-A after getting dealt from Milwaukee along with Trevor Richards in the Rowdy Tellez trade. Francis could get his feet wet as a big-league reliever in 2022.

  • Athletics' Brent Honeywell: Dealt to Oakland for cash

Honeywell was traded from the Rays to the Athletics on Friday in exchange for cash, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Universally considered one of the game's best pitching prospects prior to the 2018 season, injuries have really taken their toll on Honeywell. The A's already have a couple pitchers with a similar track record in A.J. Puk and James Kaprielian. It seems unlikely that Honeywell will make it as a starter, but the Athletics' developmental plan for him should become clearer in the spring.

  • Rangers' Ronny Henriquez: Added to 40-man roster

Henriquez's contract was selected by the Rangers on Friday.

Henriquez advanced to Double-A Frisco in early June and made 16 appearances (11 starts) with the club. He had some struggles against the increased level of competition, as he posted a 5.04 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 69.2 innings. However, he'll now be protected from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.

  • Devin Smeltzer RP | MIA

Twins' Devin Smeltzer: Outrighted to Triple-A

Smeltzer (elbow) was outrighted to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.

Smeltzer sustained an elbow injury in May of 2021 and missed the remainder of the season as a result. It's not yet clear whether he'll be ready for spring training in 2022, but he'll now lose his spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Cole Sands RP | MIN

Twins' Cole Sands: Shielded from Rule 5 draft

Sands' contract was selected by Minnesota on Friday.

Sands missed just over a month in 2021 due to an undisclosed injury, but he returned to close out the season. He logged a 2.46 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in 80.1 innings across 19 appearances (18 starts) and will now be protected from the Rule 5 draft.

  • Josh Winder RP | ARI

Twins' Josh Winder: Added to 40-man roster

Winder (shoulder) was added to the Twins' 40-man roster Friday.

Despite finishing the season shut down due to shoulder fatigue, Winder is an intriguing prospect to watch in 2022. He could make his big-league debut at some point next season after dominating Double-A (1.98 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 65:10 K:BB in 54.2 IP) and making four starts at Triple-A.

  • Red Sox's Josh Winckowski: Joins 40-man roster

Winckowski's contract was selected by the Red Sox on Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Winckowski was acquired by Boston in February and spent time at Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester. He posted a 4.02 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 112 innings across 23 appearances (22 starts) and will now be protected from the Rule 5 draft.
