Sewald allowed a hit and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings to earn the save in Saturday's 8-3 win over the Rays.

Justin Topa worked into a jam in the eighth inning, but Sewald got a double play to escape it after allowing an inherited runner to score. This was Sewald's longest outing of the year, though he was efficient, needing just 17 pitches (15 strikes) to get the five outs. The Mariners' closer is up to 15 saves in 18 chances with a 2.70 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 45:11 K:BB through 33.1 innings.

Hamilton will serve as the opener for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The Yankees will use their bullpen to get through the second game of the doubleheader. Hamilton has pitched as many as three innings in an outing this season, though he has made only one appearance -- he threw one inning -- since returning from a six-week absence in late June.

Dubin will start Sunday's game against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Dubin made his big-league debut June 18 and has pitched twice in relief. He's worked multiple innings on both occasions, though he may not pitch long enough to be eligible for a win. Dubin's effectiveness will also be a question, as he has allowed six earned runs across five major-league innings.

White will start on the mound for the Tigers on Saturday against Colorado, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Saturday will mark the first start of White's MLB career -- and his first start at any level since 2021 with High-A West Michigan. The 24-year-old righty holds a 5.23 ERA and 1.16 WHIP on the season through 10.1 innings, and he will likely only remain on the mound for an inning or two Saturday.

The Rays recalled Beeks from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

With Shane McClanahan (back) landing on the injured list Saturday, Beeks will be called upon to replace McClanahan on the Rays' pitching staff. Beeks has made seven starts this year -- though most of his work has come out of the bullpen -- and holds a 5.82 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through 34 innings.

The Royals recalled Snider from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

Snider has spent all season in Omaha after failing to make the Royals' Opening Day roster. He's put up a rather unimpressive 6.35 ERA and 1.78 WHIP through 28.1 innings, but he will be called upon nonetheless to provide depth to Kansas City's bullpen. Brooks Kriske was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Tarnok (shoulder) is no longer dealing with the blister issue he suffered during his last rehab start, and he's still expected to make his next start with Triple-A Las Vegas on Monday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Tarnok's blister recovery keeps him on schedule in his rehab assignment, and he remains on pace to join the Athletics' rotation within a couple weeks after being on the shelf all season with a right shoulder strain. The 24-year-old prospect has been OK during his rehab assignment, surrendering two runs on four hits and six walks -- though he's struck out just four batters across 10.2 innings.

The Athletics optioned Snead to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Snead was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday and will now head to the minors without appearing in a game. The 28-year-old lefty put up a 7.20 ERA and 1.80 WHIP through five innings during his rehab assignment, so clearly there is still more work to do before he's worthy of a spot in Oakland's bullpen. Kyle Muller was promoted from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Munoz (0-1) took the loss against the Rays on Friday, allowing four earned runs on four hits over one-plus inning. He did not issue a walk or record a strikeout.

Both the Mariners as a whole and Munoz in particular saw their nights take sudden ugly turns after encouraging starts. The normally reliable right-hander cruised through his first frame upon entering in the seventh, preserving a 4-4 tie with a 1-2-3 inning. However, Munoz would go on to play an integral role in Tampa Bay's eight-run eighth, failing to retire any of the four batters he faced while directly surrendering two runs and being charged with two more when runners he'd left on base upon exiting eventually crossed the plate. Prior to Friday, Munoz hadn't given up a run since Sept. 29, his penultimate appearance of 2022. Despite the hiccup, the flamethrowing 24-year-old should continue to enjoy plenty of high-leverage opportunities given his track record.

The Blue Jays optioned Thornton to Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Thornton has thrown 5.1 major-league innings this season, and he surrendered his first earned run of the year Friday against Boston. He'll now head back to Triple-A, where he holds a 3.04 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 23.2 frames. Thomas Hatch will come up from Buffalo to replace Thornton, though Thornton could return to Toronto if he keeps performing well in the minors.
