Rooker is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Astros.

Rooker is hitting .214 with two home runs, one steal and a 39.4 percent strikeout rate in eight games this month. Tyler Soderstrom will slot in as designated hitter while batting eighth.

O'Keefe was placed on the paternity list Tuesday.

O'Keefe only has 19 at-bats since his contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma on Aug. 16. Luis Torrens was selected from Triple-A to serve as Cal Raleigh's backup in the short term.

The Mariners selected Torrens' contract from Triple-A Tacoma prior to Tuesday's game against the Angels.

Torrens has spent the majority of the past few seasons as a member of the Mariners organization, and he'll return to the big leagues after getting released by the Nationals in July and signing a minor-league deal with Seattle a couple weeks ago. Brian O'Keefe was placed on the paternity list in a corresponding move, so Torrens could be sent back to Triple-A in a few days after O'Keefe rejoins the club.

Horwitz is hitting cleanup Tuesday against the Rangers after Brandon Belt (back spasms) was placed on the 10-day injured list.

Horwitz has excellent plate skills and questionable power for a first baseman, but he will get an opportunity to play regularly against righties in the short term. On the season, he has a .308/.400/.462 slash line with one home run, seven strikeouts and four walks in 30 plate appearances.

Toronto placed Belt on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with lumbar spine muscle spasms.

Belt exited Monday's game against the Rangers with back spasms and it's serious enough that the Blue Jays will give him at least 10 days to get right. Spencer Horwitz is essentially taking on all of Belt's duties and is hitting cleanup Tuesday against Max Scherzer.

Belt (back) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Rangers.

Belt, who left Monday's game early due to lower-back muscle spasms, likely would have been in the lineup Tuesday against righty Max Scherzer if he were able physically. Spencer Horwitz will start at first base and hit cleanup. With the Jays facing lefty Jordan Montgomery on Wednesday, Belt likely will be held out until at least Thursday's matchup against Nathan Eovaldi.

Cabrera (knee) is at designated hitter and batting sixth versus the Reds on Tuesday in his return to the lineup.

It's the first start since Friday for Cabrera, who has dealt with a sore knee lately. The future Hall of Famer carries a lowly .653 OPS into Tuesday's action.

Vogelbach is out of the lineup again Tuesday versus the Diamondbacks.

Vogelbach has been sitting lately against both righties and lefties as the Mets go with younger options at designated hitter. Mark Vientos will fill the DH role and bat seventh Tuesday versus the D-backs and right-hander Ryne Nelson.

Ruf (knee) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Ruf has been sidelined since early June due to a non-displaced fracture in his right kneecap, so he'll probably need several rehab games to get back up to speed. The 37-year-old holds a weak .224/.333/.286 batting line in 57 major-league plate appearances this season between San Francisco and Milwaukee.

Winker (quadricep/back) is scheduled to resume his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Nashville, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Winker suffered a quad injury while playing in a game for Nashville earlier this month, but it has proven to be a minor setback and he could return to the Brewers as early as this weekend. The 30-year-old originally landed on the 10-day injured list July 26 with back spasms.
