Rice went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI in Thursday's 6-3 win over the Rays.

Despite struggling against southpaws with a .182 average in 23 plate appearances, the lefty-hitting Rice is slashing .317/.414/.650 with five home runs, three doubles, one triple and 10 RBI through 17 games while operating as New York's primary designated hitter versus right-handed pitching.

Rooker went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's 8-0 win over the White Sox.

Rooker put the finishing touches on a convincing A's victory, launching a 415-foot homer off Bryse Wilson in the ninth inning for his fifth long ball this season. It's the first homer in 10 games for Rooker, who'd gone 7-for-37 (.189) in his previous nine contests. He's now slashing .232/.276/.451 with 10 RBI and 12 runs scored through 87 plate appearances this year. Thursday's contest was also Rooker's third this season playing in the outfield, as the A's consider ways to make room in the lineup for top prospect Nick Kurtz.

Manzardo is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game in Baltimore.

Manzardo is just 1-for-14 at the dish over his last five games, so he'll get a day off to regroup. Jose Ramirez is handling designated-hitter duties for the Guardians on Thursday, while Gabriel Arias plays third base and Daniel Schneemann covers second.

Maton is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

The left-handed-hitting Maton will retreat to the bench while the Athletics send southpaw JP Sears to the hill for the series finale. Though Maton has logged 42 of his 43 plate appearances against opposite-handed pitching, he's batting just .139 with a pair of home runs and a 27.9 percent strikeout rate. The White Sox have been using Maton as their primary option at designated hitter versus righties this season, but his lack of production thus far could inspire manager Will Venable to use a rotation of players at the DH spot.

O'Hearn went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 9-1 win over Cleveland.

O'Hearn extended Baltimore's lead to 6-1 in the eighth inning with a 396-foot blast off Triston McKenzie, his second homer of the year. The 31-year-old O'Hearn has gone 4-for-9 in his last three games, boosting his slash line to .302/.388/.512 with seven runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base through his first 49 plate appearances this season.

The Twins acquired Bride from the Marlins on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

The 29-year-old was designated for assignment by Miami on Tuesday, and Minnesota elected to trade for him with Willi Castro (oblique) and Matt Wallner (hamstring) being the latest Twins players to suffer injuries. Bride went 4-for-40 with 15 strikeouts through 12 games for the Marlins this season, but he was productive in 272 plate appearances last year with 11 homers and an .818 OPS. Therefore, it's a good opportunity for the Twins to add some much-needed infield depth with upside.

Rice is not in the Yankees' starting lineup against the Royals on Wednesday.

Rice has received three starts against left-handed pitchers this season, but he'll take a seat Wednesday with the Royals sending southpaw Kris Bubic to the mound. With Rice beginning the contest in the dugout, Aaron Judge will serve as the designated hitter while Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham and Jasson Dominguez man the outfield. Rice has started the season slashing .273/.385/.618 with 10 walks, two stolen bases, 12 runs scored, five home runs and seven RBI in 65 plate appearances.

Polanco (side) said Wednesday that he's been taking right-handed swings off a tee and is "getting closer" to being able to bat righty in a game, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

The switch hitter has been able to hit only left-handed over the last week-plus due to lingering side soreness, which has also limited him to DH duties. While Polanco didn't offer a specific timetable for his return to the lineup versus lefties, it sounds like it's coming soon. The next southpaw the Mariners are scheduled to face is the Blue Jays' Easton Lucas on Sunday.

Alvarez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest in St. Louis.

Alvarez homered in Tuesday's victory over the Cardinals but will get some rest for Wednesday's matinee. Jose Altuve is in the designated hitter spot for the series finale, while Chas McCormick will play left field.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Tuesday that Yoshida (shoulder) is not close to a rebab assignment, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Yoshida continues to rehab in Fort Myers and is working on a throwing program. He's not going to be ready for duty in the majors until he's able to make throws from the outfield.
