  • Indians' Michael Brantley: Lifted with injury Tuesday

Brantley exited Tuesday's game against the Rockies with an apparent lower-body injury, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Brantley appeared to injure himself while jogging in the outfield on a ball hit to center fielder Bradley Zimmer. The veteran outfielder came up gimpy and immediately sat down and called for team trainers. He was able to walk off the field under his own power and was replaced by Abraham Almonte.

  • Ryan Goins DH | KC

Blue Jays' Ryan Goins: On bench Tuesday

Goins is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

Goins has a modest seven-game hitting streak going, but he'll take a seat for the second time in five games. Darwin Barney will man shortstop while Rob Refsnyder takes over second base.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rays' Brad Miller: Heads to bench Tuesday

Miller is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Miller will get the day off as manager Kevin Cash looks to stack right-handed bats against southpaw Chris Sale. In his place, Daniel Robertson will take over at the keystone.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Smacks three-run shot Sunday

Canha went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run Sunday against the Angels.

There's playing time available at first base with Yonder Alonso getting shipped to Seattle, and Canha made a good case for getting more opportunities to fill that hole with this performance. He also surprisingly didn't strike out in this one, though his 34:4 K:BB in 104 plate appearances is still nothing to write home about. Canha's .414 slugging percentage is passable, but he'll need to significantly improve his .240 OBP to justify anything more than a part-time role.

  • Ryan Goins DH | KC

Blue Jays' Ryan Goins: Bumped up to sixth in lineup for Sunday

Goins was bumped up the batting order and will hit sixth Sunday in Houston.

Goins has logged 89 percent of his at-bats this season hitting in the bottom third of the order, but a recent hot streak earned the shortstop a spot in the middle of the lineup Sunday. Over Goins' last 10 games, he's gone 11-for-37 (.297) with four extra-base hits and eight RBI.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Receives day off Sunday

Cabrera is out of the lineup Sunday against the Orioles.

Cabrera has been one of the more durable hitters in baseball during his 15-year career, but with the Tigers out of playoff contention and the two-time MVP in the midst of a disappointing campaign, don't be surprised if he's rested more liberally over the final two months. Andrew Romine draws the start at first base in the series finale as Cabrera takes a seat for the second time since the All-Star break.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Being considered for promotion

Jimenez might be in line for a promotion to Double-A Birmingham, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Jimenez appears to be ready for the next challenge after he shared the organization's Player of the Month award for July when hit .356 with four home runs, seven doubles and 14 RBI in 17 games with High-A Winston-Salem. General manager Rick Hahn is considering the promotion but is also having internal debate between letting Jimenez finish a successful year at the High-A level he's been at all season, or giving him a taste of where he'll likely start next year. Whatever happens, Jimenez is one of the top prospects in all of baseball and is expected to be a core player for the White Sox in two or three years.

  • Ryan Goins DH | KC

Blue Jays' Ryan Goins: Pops fifth home run Friday

Goins went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Friday's 16-7 loss to the Astros.

The home run was his first since May 24 and fifth of the year, tying his previous career high. Goins should continue seeing regular at-bats at least through the rest of August with Devon Travis (knee) and Troy Tulowitzki (ankle) both out of action, but don't expect much production from the light-hitting shortstop with a career .597 OPS.

  • AJ Reed DH | HOU

Astros' A.J. Reed: Optioned to Fresno

Reed was sent back to Triple-A Fresno after Friday's game, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Reed went 0-for-6 in a pair of appearances since his call-up on Monday. The second-rounder's time will come, but this Astros team is stacked with options to cover first base and designated hitter, so he'll go back to Fresno for regular at-bats.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Called up Wednesday

Canha was brought back up to the majors prior to Wednesday's game in San Francisco.

Canha has spent 29 games with the big-league team this season, hitting .191/.234/.393 with three home runs and seven RBI. He was optioned to Triple-A Nashville in early June while in the midst of a slump, but Canha's been seeing the ball much better in the minors, going 49-for-167 while slugging .545 since heading back down. He figures to provide depth in the outfield and at first base going forward.
