Rays' Yandy Diaz: Returns to lineup Friday

Diaz (hand) is back in the lineup at designated hitter and hitting fourth Friday against the Yankees, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.

Diaz was hit on the hand by a pitch Tuesday against the Orioles and was out of the lineup Wednesday ahead of Thursday's off day. He's now good to go against Gerrit Cole on Friday. Diaz has a current six-game hitting streak. He's gone 11-for-24 (.458) with three doubles, three homers, 10 RBI, seven runs scored and three walks during that span.

  • Blue Jays' George Springer: Belts fourth homer

Springer went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Yankees.

The veteran hitter took Camilo Doval deep in the seventh inning, giving the Blue Jays a valuable insurance run in an eventual 2-0 victory. Springer has a modest four-game hit streak going in which he's launched two of his four homers on the season, but since returning from a fractured toe in late April he's slashing just .212/.268/.318 over 17 games with four RBI and seven runs.

  • Spencer Jones CF | NYY

Yankees' Spencer Jones: Returns to Triple-A

Jones was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Thursday's 2-0 loss to Toronto, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Jones will head back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after going 4-for-24 with no extra-base hits, two RBI and a stolen base over 10 contests with the Yankees since making his major-league debut May 8. The outfielder's departure creates a spot on the major-league roster for Jose Caballero (finger), who is expected to return from the 10-day injured list Friday.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Angels' Jorge Soler: Getting breather Thursday

Soler isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Soler will get a chance to rest his legs Thursday after blasting his ninth homer of the season during the Angels' extra-inning loss Wednesday. Mike Trout will occupy the DH spot while Soler rests, giving Jose Siri an opportunity to start in center field.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

Angels' Jorge Soler: Launches ninth homer

Soler went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Athletics.

Soler struck early, with his homer coming off Aaron Civale in the first inning to tie the game at 2-2. This ended a stretch of 12 games without a long ball for Soler, who hit .163 and slugged .256 in that span. For the season, he's batting just .213 with a .729 OPS, nine homers, 30 RBI, 22 runs scored and nine doubles over 46 contests. While his performance isn't all that impressive, he's providing more pop than last season, when he totaled 12 home runs in 82 contests.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

    Mariners' Mitch Garver: Idle Wednesday

Garver is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Jhonny Pereda will get the nod behind the plate Wednesday while he and Garver continue to share time at catcher in the absence of Cal Raleigh (oblique), who was placed on the injured list last Thursday. Garver recently overcame a minor back issue of his own, so it's possible that he'll take on a larger share of the catching duties from Pereda once he's further removed from that injury.

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Out of lineup after HBP

Diaz (hand) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Orioles.

Diaz departed Tuesday's game after being hit on both hands by a pitch. An X-ray and CT scan came back negative, per Ryan Bass of Rays.tv, but it's no surprise that Diaz is on the bench for Wednesday's afternoon game, particularly with a team off day looming Thursday. Jonathan Aranda will occupy the designated-hitter spot and Ryan Vilade will start at first base in the series finale.

  • White Sox's Andrew Benintendi: Knocks in go-ahead run

Benintendi went 1-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Benintendi delivered an RBI single in the ninth inning for the go-ahead run. He promptly stole second but was left on base. The veteran outfielder hasn't used his speed as much this season, and he's primarily worked as the designated hitter. He's batting .239 with a .673 OPS, three home runs, 20 RBI, 17 runs scored, seven doubles and two triples through 44 contests. His theft Tuesday was his first attempt of the year.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Knocks in trio of runs Tuesday

Rooker went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two total runs and three total RBI in a 14-6 win against the Angels on Tuesday.

Rooker knocked in a run with a single in the third inning and added a two-run homer in the eighth. The long ball was his fifth through 17 games in May. Rooker has collected six multi-hit games during the month and is batting .273 with 16 RBI.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Rangers' Joc Pederson: Racks up four hits in rout

Pederson went 4-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI in Tuesday's 10-0 victory versus Colorado.

Pederson didn't start Tuesday, but he entered the game in the second inning as a pinch hitter for Andrew McCutchen. Pederson finished the contest and ended up with a season-high four hits -- one more than he had tallied over his previous 20 at-bats combined. The veteran DH is slashing .236/.356/.355 with three home runs, four doubles, 15 runs and 11 RBI through 135 plate appearances on the campaign.
