Rockies' Hunter Goodman: Goes deep in loss

Goodman went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Goodman got the scoring started with a two-run homer off Jose Berrios in the first inning, marking his 22nd long ball of the season. The catcher has remained a steady power threat all year and has now gone deep four times in his past seven games. Through 99 contests this campaign, he's slashing .281/.328/.531 with an .859 OPS, 20 doubles, 22 home runs and 64 RBI.

  • Bryan Lavastida: Cut by Houston

Lavastida was released by the Astros on Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Lavastida produced a .250 average with one home run, seven RBI, 12 runs scored and five stolen bases over 80 at-bats in 24 contests with Triple-A Sugar Land, but he will now look for another opportunity elsewhere. The 26-year-old last played in the majors in 2022 with Cleveland, and he has split his time between Double-A and Triple-A over the last three seasons.

  • Padres' Freddy Fermin: Day off Tuesday

Fermin isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game versus Arizona.

After going 3-for-9 with two RBI and a run scored through his first three games as a Padre, Fermin will get a breather Tuesday while Elias Diaz starts behind the plate and bats ninth.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Not in Tuesday's lineup

Smith isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Smith will step out of the starting nine Tuesday after going 0-for-3 with a walk in Monday's loss. Dalton Rushing will get the nod to start behind the plate instead and catch for starter Emmet Sheehan.

  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Getting breather Tuesday

Wells isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rangers.

Wells will take a seat Tuesday after going 1-for-5 with a run scored during Monday's series opener. Ben Rice will catch instead for starter Will Warren and bat second.

  • James McCann C | ARI

    Diamondbacks' James McCann: Idle Tuesday

McCann isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Padres.

The Diamondbacks have begun to use McCann behind the plate every other day since the start of August, and Tuesday will mark a day off for the 35-year-old backstop. Jose Herrera will start at catcher instead and bat ninth.

  • Ali Sanchez C | BOS

Blue Jays' Ali Sanchez: Designated for assignment

The Blue Jays designated Sanchez for assignment Tuesday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

The Blue Jays had no use for Sanchez following Alejandro Kirk's return from the injured list Sunday, so the former will now lose his place on the MLB and 40-man rosters. Buddy Kennedy was selected from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the vacant spot.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Getting breather Tuesday

Stephenson is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Cubs.

It's a routine day off after Stephenson caught each of the previous two days. Jose Trevino is behind the dish and batting eighth for the Reds on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Dillon Dingler: Exiting starting nine

Dingler is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Twins.

He'll get a well-deserved break after starting each of the previous four contests at catcher. Jake Rogers will be behind the dish and bat ninth while Dingler rests.

  • Athletics' Willie MacIver: Back in big leagues

The Athletics recalled MacIver from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was optioned to Las Vegas in late July but will make a quick return to the majors to replace Austin Wynns (abdomen) on the active roster. MacIver has handled himself well at the plate in his first 17 big-league games this season with a .737 OPS, but he isn't likely to receive regular playing time while serving as the backup to starting catcher Shea Langeliers.
