  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Gets breather Thursday

Heim is out of the lineup Thursday versus the Tigers.

Heim will grab a bit of rest after making five straight starts behind the plate. Mitch Garver is catching for the Rangers in Thursday's matinee, and Ezequiel Duran will fill the DH role.

  • Pirates' Austin Hedges: Resting Wednesday

Hedges is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

The Pirates' recent decision to promote top catching prospect Henry Davis hasn't affected Hedges, as the Bucs have instead elected to let the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft get his feet wet in right field and at designated hitter in his first taste of the big leagues. As such, Hedges and Jason Delay have remained the Pirates' top options behind the plate, with the former garnering each of the last three starts at catcher. Hedges will give way to Delay on Thursday while the Pirates and Padres conclude their series with a day game after a night game.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Taking seat Thursday

Sanchez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Pittsburgh.

The two teams are playing a day game after a night game, and Sanchez had started five of the last six contests, so he'll understandably get a breather in the series finale. Austin Nola will catch Joe Musgrove on Thursday.

  • Bo Naylor C | CLE

Guardians' Bo Naylor: Mashes first big-league homer

Naylor went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk and three total runs in a blowout 14-1 win against the Royals on Wednesday.

Naylor had struggled in 12 big-league games (including five last season) coming into Wednesday, going 3-for-32 with no extra-base hits and 15 strikeouts. His considerable talent showed up against KC, though, as he smashed a 417-foot two-run shot in the sixth inning for his first major-league long ball and finished with his first three-hit game. Naylor has been getting consistent playing time behind the plate since being called up June 17, and if he's able to use Wednesday's performance as a launch point to more consistent offense, he should further cement his role as the Guardians' primary backstop.

  • Seby Zavala C | LAD

White Sox's Seby Zavala: Goes deep twice Wednesday

Zavala went 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 11-5 win over the Angels.

Zavala had gone just 1-for-20 across 10 games since his previous multi-homer game June 6 versus the Yankees. The catcher remains in a backup role behind Yasmani Grandal, which gives Zavala few opportunities to prove himself. While he's up to six homers on the year, the 29-year-old has slashed just .168/.200/.336 with 15 RBI, 11 runs scored and a stolen base over 120 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Not starting Wednesday

Grandal isn't in the White Sox's lineup Wednesday against the Angels.

Grandal is 3-for-9 with a home run over his last four games and will receive a day off Wednesday. Seby Zavala will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Not in lineup Wednesday

Trevino is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Athletics.

Kyle Higashioka will catch and bat eighth in Oakland after Trevino logged two straight starts behind the plate for the Yankees.

  • Chad Wallach C | ATH

Angels' Chad Wallach: Out of lineup Wednesday

Wallach isn't in the Angels' lineup Wednesday against the White Sox, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Wallach has traded starts back and forth with Matt Thaiss since Saturday, and Wednesday marks Thaiss' turn to start behind the dish. Wallach is 0-for-18 at the plate across his last seven games.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Not in lineup Wednesday

Moreno is not in the lineup Wednesday versus the Rays.

Carson Kelly will catch and bat seventh as the Diamondbacks face off against the Rays and right-hander Zach Eflin. Moreno takes a seat after logging two straight starts behind the plate.

  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: Sitting Wednesday vs. Rangers

Rogers is not in the starting lineup versus the Rangers on Wednesday.

Rogers will get a day of rest after going 2-for-5 with a homer and a pair of walks in the first two games against Texas. Eric Haase will start behind the plate and hit fifth for the third contest of the four-game set versus the Rangers.
