  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Hitless in return

Heim went 0-for-3 with a walk in his return from the injured list Sunday against the Giants.

Heim made his return to the lineup after missing a little over two weeks with a strained left wrist tendon. The 2023 All-Star will look to continue his breakout campaign and help the Rangers capture their first division title since 2016. He's currently slashing .278/.336/.474 and will push Mitch Garver to a backup role (or to more of a DH role) once again.

  • Ben Rortvedt C | NYM

Yankees' Ben Rortvedt: Clubs first homer for Yanks

Rortvedt went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-7 loss against the Marlins.

The sixth-inning blast was his first with the Yankees. This was Rortvedt's first start in four games, though he had started five of the previous seven contests. Rortvedt has an opportunity to continue to push Kyle Higashioka for playing time, especially if Rortvedt shows he can provide some offensive punch.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Not starting nightcap

Stephenson isn't in the Reds' lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against Pittsburgh.

Stephenson went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts during the Reds' Game 1 loss, and he'll catch a breather to end the day. Luke Maile will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Resting Sunday

Alvarez isn't in the Mets' lineup Sunday against Atlanta.

Alvarez is 1-for-8 with a double during New York's current series against Atlanta, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's finale. Omar Narvaez will take over behind the plate and bat sixth.

  • Carlos Perez C | HOU

Athletics' Carlos Perez: Full rehab game at DH

Perez (thumb) took a full game's worth of plate appearances as the designated hitter in Triple-A Las Vegas' loss to the River Cats on Saturday, going 2-for-4 with an RBI single, a walk and two runs.

It's the latest step in what's been a productive rehab assignment for Perez thus far. The veteran's next benchmark is likely to log at least seven innings on defense, as he was able to put in five frames behind the dish Thursday. If Perez manages the feat in his next contest with the Aviators, he may be deemed ready for activation.

  • Sam Huff C | BAL

Rangers' Sam Huff: Optioned to Triple-A

The Rangers optioned Huff to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

With the return of Jonah Heim (wrist) from the injured list Sunday, Huff will be pushed off the Rangers' active roster. The 25-year-old backstop went 7-for-26 (.269) with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored during his latest stint in the majors, though he likely won't return to Texas again this season barring an injury to one of the Rangers' three active catchers.

  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Activated from IL

The Rangers activated Heim (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Heim landed on the injured list July 28 with a strained left wrist tendon and will now reclaim his spot as the Rangers' primary catcher. Heim came out of the All-Star break slashing .270/.333/.514 with two homers and 11 RBI across 42 plate appearances before getting injured. His activation will force fellow backstop Sam Huff off the active roster and back to Triple-A Round Rock.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Not starting Sunday

Moreno, who was activated from the 10-day injured list Sunday, is not in the lineup against the Padres.

He will be eased back as a reserve, but Moreno should get the bulk of the starts at catcher over the rest of the season, with Jose Herrera serving as his backup. Carson Kelly was designated for assignment earlier in the day.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Activated Sunday

Moreno (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list prior to Sunday's game against the Padres.

Moreno hit .444 with two doubles in three rehab games and is ready to rejoin the fray. Carson Kelly was designated for assignment, so Jose Herrera will be Moreno's backup going forward.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Out of Sunday's lineup

Gomes is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Gomes heads to bench after starting the last two games. He has gone 1-for-7 with a double in that stretch. Miguel Amaya will get the start at catcher and bat ninth Sunday.
