The catcher credits a new plate approach for his success. "Something I've learned over my career is that some of the times where you're failing or not having success, it's because you're trying to do too much," McCann told Madeline Kenney of the Chicago Sun-Times. "So my big thing is taking what's given to me and not trying to hit the seven-run homer that is impossible to hit." McCann's also adopted a wider stance, which he believes enables him to get his body out of the way of his swing.

Sanchez underwent concussion tests after Saturday's loss to the Rays but indicated he feels fine, James Wagner of The New York Times reports.

Sanchez caught a backswing to the head at some point during the contest but still caught all eight innings defensively. The team will see how the 26-year-old feels Sunday morning and update his status from there.

Contreras went 2-for-7 with a walkoff solo home run in a 2-1 victory against the Brewers on Saturday.

The 26-year-old ended the 15-inning marathon with a solo bomb to left. Contreras has hits in 10 straight games in which he's recorded an official at-bat, and during that stretch, he's hitting .441 with four home runs and seven RBI. This hot streak has bumped his slash line up to .315/.430/.640, and he also has 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 23 runs and a steal in 111 at-bats. He's looking like a fantasy superstar at the catcher position.

Leon went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer in a win over Seattle on Saturday.

The home run capped an eight-run third inning by the Red Sox and was Leon's first of the year. The catcher is hitting .222 in 11 games.

Mejia landed on the 10-day injured list with a left knee sprain Saturday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Mejia has struggled at the plate this season, hitting just .167/.207/.259 in 58 plate appearances. It's unclear how much time he's expected to miss. Austin Allen was called up in a corresponding move.

D'Arnaud was added to the Rays' roster Saturday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

D'Arnaud was immediately added to the Rays' roster after being acquired by the club Friday. With fellow catchers Mike Zunino (quad) and Michael Perez (oblique) on the injured list and Nick Ciuffo optioned, d'Arnaud figures to get a chance to show what he can do right away.

Garver went 1-for-1 with three walks, a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 6-0 win over the Tigers.

He's now gone yard three times in his last four starts, pushing his slash line to an eye-popping .364/.440/.788 through 21 games with eight homers and 16 RBI. Jason Castro just recovered from an elbow bruise and Willians Astudillo is close to returning from a hamstring strain, but even when all his catchers are healthy it could be tough for manager Rocco Baldelli to take Garver out of the lineup.

D'Arnaud has been traded from the Dodgers to the Rays for cash considerations, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

D'Arnaud's stint with Los Angeles certainly didn't last long, as he was scooped up by the Dodgers on Sunday, only to be traded away five days later. He did get one at-bat in a Dodger uniform Thursday night. The Rays are currently dealing with injuries to their top two backstops, Mike Zunino (quad) and Michael Perez (oblique), so d'Arnaud appears to be in line for consistent playing time behind Nick Ciuffo, at least for the next month.

Perez isn't starting Friday's game against Oakland.

Perez will get the night to rest after collecting two base knocks in Thursday's matchup against the White Sox. Kevin Plawecki draws the start behind the dish and is batting eighth in Perez's stead.

Gomes isn't in Friday's starting lineup against the Dodgers, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Gomes took the collar at the dish Thursday in his first game back from a forearm injury, so he'll get the night off. Kurt Suzuki will draw the start behind the dish and bat sixth in Gomes' absence.
