Gomes isn't starting Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes will get a second consecutive day of rest Thursday after going 3-for-12 with two RBI in his last three games. Tucker Barnhart will take over behind the dish and bat ninth.

Ruiz went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Orioles.

The catcher accounted for half of the Nationals' six hits on the night, with none of his teammates collecting more than one. Ruiz has seen a heavy workload so far, starting 16 of Washington's 18 games, and while he's produced a respectable .262/.328/.361 slash line, he's managed only one homer, two runs and five RBI due in large part to the anemic lineup around him.

Heim went 3-for-4 with a walk, a three-run home run and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 12-3 win over the Royals.

Heim delivered the finishing blows to Kansas City with a three-run blast in the ninth inning that travelled 429 feet. It was the third homer of the season for the catcher, who has a .941 OPS and has knocked in 11 runs through 13 games. With Mitch Garver's knee injury expected to keep him out through the beginning of May, Heim becomes the primary catcher, with Sandy Leon backing him up. Heim has started eight of the last 10 games.

Herrera was removed from Wednesday's 14-5 loss to the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth inning after taking a foul ball off his helmet while he was behind the plate, the Associated Press reports.

Gabriel Moreno came off the bench to replace Herrera, who went 1-for-3 with a strikeout prior to departing. The Diamondbacks will presumably put Herrera through concussion tests before deciding whether he's available to stay on the active roster as a backup to Moreno or if the team will need to delve into the minor-league ranks to find a new No. 2 catcher.

Wong is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Reese McGuire's inability to control the running game early on in the season has allowed Wong to emerge as Boston's No. 1 catcher, but the latter's job security may be starting to loosen. In his last start behind the dish in Monday's loss to the Angels, McGuire threw out the lone would-be base stealer on the day (Shohei Ohtani), and the backstop also went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run. McGuire enters Wednesday with a 372-point edge over Wong in OPS for the season, and the upgrade McGuire offers with the bat may be enough for him to eventually usurp Wong atop the depth chart.

O'Hoppe is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Matt Thaiss will get the starting nod behind the dish while O'Hoppe sits for just the fourth time through the Angels' first 18 games of the season. So long as Max Stassi (hip) remains on the injured list, O'Hoppe should continue to dominate the starts at catcher.

McCann is drawing a start at catcher for the Orioles in Wednesday's game versus the Nationals, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Adley Rutschman is also in there at designated hitter. McCann is just 1-for-11 at the dish so far after returning from an oblique strain.

Barnes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Since Will Smith (concussion) last played April 12 before going on the 7-day injured list a few days later, Barnes has started at catcher in four of the Dodgers' past six games. Austin Wynns will get the nod behind the dish Wednesday, but Barnes should remain the Dodgers' preferred option at the position until Smith is back from the IL, likely no earlier than Friday.

Vazquez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

Vazquez appears to be receiving a routine day off after he started each of the past three games. Ryan Jeffers will catch for starting pitcher Joe Ryan on Wednesday.

Nido is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

Nido will duck out of the starting nine after he was behind the plate both Monday and Tuesday. Rookie Francisco Alvarez will catch for starting pitcher Max Scherzer in the series finale in Los Angeles.
