  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: On bench Sunday

McCann is out of the lineup Sunday against the Phillies, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

McCann started the past three games and will receive a breather in the series finale. Tomas Nido will catch for Rich Hill and bat eighth.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: On bench Sunday

Contreras is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Contreras went 1-for-4 with a home run Saturday and is now hitting .206 with three home runs and seven RBI in his last 10 games. Austin Romine starts behind the dish and bats eighth Sunday.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Hits 20th home run

Contreras went 1-for-4 with a walk, a solo home run and two total RBI in Saturday's loss to the Brewers.

Contreras is batting just .206 over his last 10 games, though he does have three home runs in the stretch, giving him 20 long balls for the year. It's the third time the catcher has reached the 20-homer plateau in his six-year MLB career. His career high is the 24 home runs he blasted back in 2019, so Contreras has a shot at reaching or surpassing that mark in the Cubs' final 13 games.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Day off Sunday

Diaz is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

It appears to be a regular day off for the 30-year-old backstop, who's hit .303 with three doubles and three home runs in his last 10 games. Dom Nunez is catching and batting eighth Sunday.

  • Curt Casali C | ATL

Giants' Curt Casali: Drives in both runs in win

Casali went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI in Saturday's 2-0 win over Atlanta.

The 32-year-old provided the only scoring play of the game, plating LaMonte Wade and Brandon Crawford with a four-inning single. Casali has posted a .214/.314/.359 slash line with five home runs, 26 RBI, 20 runs scored and 11 doubles in 221 plate appearances. He'll continue to play roughly twice a week as backup to Buster Posey.

  • Giants' Chadwick Tromp: Bumped from 40-man roster

Tromp was designated for assignment on Saturday, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Tromp has appeared in nine games for the Giants this season, but he's spent most of the year at Triple-A Sacramento, where he had a .224/.265/.380 slash line in 55 games. He could return to Sacramento if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Omar Narvaez C | HOU

Brewers' Omar Narvaez: Not in Saturday's lineup

Narvaez is out of the lineup Saturday versus the Cubs, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Narvaez started the past three games and will receive the day off Saturday. Manny Pina will catch for Corbin Burnes and bat sixth in his place.

  • Luke Maile C | KC

Brewers' Luke Maile: Optioned to minors

Maile was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday.

Maile had served as the team's third catcher since being recalled Sept. 12. He made only one appearance in that span, collecting one hit in two at-bats and scoring two runs. With Avisail Garcia (back) out of the lineup for the last few days, the team called up Tim Lopes to serve as a versatile bench option.

  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Hits bench Saturday

Nola is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Nola had drawn four consecutive starts behind the plate, so he'll get a day off. Victor Caratini will take over behind the plate and hit eighth.

  • Pirates' Jacob Stallings: Sitting Saturday

Stallings is not in Saturday's lineup against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Stallings has collected at least one hit in eight of his 11 starts in September. He'll draw a day of rest Saturday, with Michael Perez taking over behind the plate.
