  • Keibert Ruiz C | WAS

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Taking seat Friday

Ruiz is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Reds.

It looks to be a routine day of rest for Ruiz, who had started five of the past six games behind the plate. Harry Ford will do the catching for the Nationals in Friday's series opener.

  • Luis Torrens C | NYM

Mets' Luis Torrens: Pops fourth homer

Torrens went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI in Thursday's win over the Guardians.

The veteran catcher took Foster Griffin deep for a two-run shot in the second inning, putting the Mets in the lead for good in an eventual 13-6 victory. Torrens has gone yard in back-to-back starts, racking up five hits with seven RBI in those contests, and on the season he's put together a .234/.300/.359 slash line through 212 plate appearances with four homers, 26 runs and 27 RBI.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Delivers lone run in loss

Moreno went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Padres.

Moreno continued his RBI binge when he singled home Arizona's lone run in the third inning. He's plated runners in 14 of 18 contests since the All-Star break, compiling 18 RBI during that stretch. Moreno is up to 50 RBI through 87 contests this season, tying the career high he set over 111 games in 2023.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Brewers' Gary Sanchez: Delivers homer in win

Sanchez went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Pirates.

After sitting six straight games, Sanchez got the start Thursday while William Contreras received a day of rest. The veteran catcher snapped a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning by taking Braxton Ashcraft deep for a solo home run. Sanchez added a single an inning later for his sixth multi-hit effort of the season. Since the beginning of July, he is batting 7-for-29 (.241) across 11 games. On the year, he owns a .223 batting average with an .818 OPS over 196 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Luis Campusano: Idle Thursday

Campusano is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Diamondbacks.

Campusano went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Wednesday's 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. He'll get a chance to reset on the bench Thursday as Freddy Fermin gets the start behind the plate and bats eighth.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Goes deep in win

Stephenson went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 6-5 win over the Athletics.

Stephenson's homer in the bottom of the fourth inning tied the game at 3-3 after the A's took a lead in the top half of the frame. It was the fourth home run in the last 13 contests and 10th of the season for the pending free agent catcher, who has burnished his market value since the break. In 14 second-half games, Stephenson has slashed .319/.418/.702 with seven walks, four homers, six doubles, nine RBI and nine runs scored.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Exiting starting lineup

Contreras is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt against the Pirates.

Contreras had made six straight starts and homered in Wednesday's win over the Pirates, but he'll get some rest during Thursday's matinee. Gary Sanchez is doing the catching and batting seventh for the Brewers.

  • Carson Kelly C | CHC

Cubs' Carson Kelly: Sitting out Thursday

Kelly is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Kelly and Miguel Amaya have rotated starts at catcher for the Cubs in each of the last 10 games. It will be Amaya behind the dish Thursday at Wrigley Field.

  • Pirates' Endy Rodriguez: Goes yard again

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Brewers.

Rodriguez has hit safely in seven of eight games since he returned from a glute injury. He's also homered in consecutive contests, giving him seven long balls on the year. The catcher is batting .269 with an .856 OPS, 20 RBI, 20 runs scored, six doubles and six stolen bases over 153 plate appearances. Henry Davis has hit just .206 since the All-Star break, so Rodriguez should have a leg up for playing time behind the plate.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Homers in Wednesday's win

Contreras went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a walk and a second run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Pirates.

Contreras ended a 13-game homer drought with his long ball in the sixth inning to provide the Brewers' last run. The catcher has gone 11-for-54 (.204) over his last 14 contests, a rare quiet stretch for him. Overall, he's batting .270 with a .733 OPS, 11 homers, 48 RBI, 56 runs scored, 17 doubles, one triple and one stolen base over 106 games.
