  • Mets' Travis d'Arnaud: Not starting Sunday

D'Arnaud (elbow) isn't in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Indians.

D'Arnaud ended up exiting in the seventh inning of Saturday's game after being struck in the elbow by a pitch, but it doesn't look like he's dealing with anything more severe than bruising, as X-rays after the game came back negative. Even before suffering the injury, d'Arnaud was scheduled to receive Sunday off in favor of Kevin Plawecki, so his absence doesn't appear particularly worrisome. D'Arnaud could be ready to go as soon as Monday's series opener against the Phillies.

  • Cubs' Willson Contreras: Continues hot start in Iowa

Contreras went 3-for-5 with a double and run scored for Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.

Contreras is still looking for his first home run of the season, but he's slashing .429/.474/.543 in 35 at-bats for Iowa. He's one of the best prospects in the Cubs' system, and with Kyle Schwarber (knee) out for the year, there's a possibility he'll catch a few games in the majors this summer.

  • Mets' Travis d'Arnaud: Suffers bruised elbow, X-rays negative

D'Arnaud has been diagnosed with a bruised elbow after being hit by a pitch in Saturday's game against the Indians, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. X-rays taken on d'Arnaud's elbow came back negative.

D'Arnaud was hit on the arm in the seventh inning of Saturday's game against the Indians and was replaced behind the plate by Kevin Plawecki. Fortunately, his elbow is merely bruised and there is no structural damage to the area. That said, the Mets may give d'Arnaud an off day Sunday to give him extra time to recover. If that's the case Sunday, look for Kevin Plawecki to get the start behind the plate for the Mets.

  • Mets' Travis d'Arnaud: Leaves game after being hit by pitch

D'Arnaud left Saturday's game in the seventh inning after being hit by a pitch in his second at-bat, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

The team has yet to announce whether d'Arnaud was removed for precautionary reasons or whether he did suffer an injury after being hit on the arm by a Zach McAllister offering. Regardless, d'Arnaud is done for the day and has been replaced behind the plate by Kevin Plawecki. The Mets will likely release an update on d'Arnaud's status following Saturday's contest.

  • Reds' Devin Mesoraco: Back in the lineup

Mesoraco is back in the lineup Saturday against St. Louis, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Mesoraco missed a pair of games earlier in the week and was only available off the bench for Friday's matchup with the Cardinals. He'll return to the starting lineup Saturday, displacing Tucker Barnhart, who had started the last three games in his place.

  • Dodgers' Yasmani Grandal: Will not play Friday

Grandal will sit out Friday's matchup with the Giants.

The Dodgers used Thursday as an opportunity to give Grandal a day off, and as expected he will not return until Saturday. A.J. Ellis will continue catching for Clayton Kershaw, as he is expected to going forward this season.

  • Dodgers' Austin Barnes: Heads to Triple-A Oklahoma City

Barnes was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday.

With Chris Hatcher returning from paternity leave, the Dodgers needed to free up a roster spot and Barnes was the guy they chose to send down to the minors. The 26-year-old has started three games at catcher and one at second base for the Dodgers on the young season, and while he hasn't committed an error in the field, he's struggled at the plate. He's hitting .133 with a run and RBI over 15 plate appearances. However, given he's a career .300 hitter in the minors, he'll be a likely call up if the Dodgers have a roster spot to fill.

  • Reds' Devin Mesoraco: Remains out Friday

Mesoraco (leg) remains out of the lineup Friday against the Cardinals.

A sore right leg will keep Mesoraco on the bench again Friday, affording Tucker Barnhart his third straight start behind the dish. It's not the same leg that was so troublesome last year -- it was the left hip Mesoraco had operated on -- but some concern is starting to mount at this point. Jordan Pacheco is the only other catcher option on the active roster.

  • Cameron Rupp C | MIN

Phillies' Cameron Rupp: Is not in Friday's lineup

Rupp is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Rupp will take a rest day as Carlos Ruiz steps in and gets the start. The 27-year-old went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Thursday's game against the Padres, dropping his average to .217 for the season.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Pirates' Elias Diaz: Tommy John surgery in Diaz's future?

Diaz (elbow) is suffering from lateral elbow discomfort and may yet be a candidate for Tommy John surgery. "The doctors are focused on the lateral (outside) of the elbow," trainer Todd Tomczyk told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

The news is discouraging as the organization felt confident Diaz would avoid going under the knife. The catcher hasn't reacted well to a prescription of arm rest since spring training.
