  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Athletics' Sean Murphy: Situated on bench

Murphy is not starting Wednesday against the Angels.

Murphy has started four of the past five games behind the dish, going 0-for-12 with six strikeouts and two walks during that stretch. Josh Phegley is starting at backstop and hitting ninth Wednesday.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Gets day off

Thaiss is not starting Wednesday against the Athletics.

Thaiss is slashing .180/.281/.240 with three doubles and one RBI in his past 20 games. He'll give way to Kaleb Cowart at the hot corner in this one.

  • Blue Jays' Reese McGuire: Not starting Wednesday

McGuire will be on the bench Wednesday against the Orioles.

McGuire owns a strong .920 OPS in the month of September. The 24-year-old has only logged 134 career big-league plate appearances, but his .306/.353/.556 slash line is quite strong. Luke Maile will be the catcher on this occasion.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Rangers' Jose Trevino: Takes seat Wednesday

Trevino is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Trevino has started six of the past seven games, going 4-for-22 (.182) with a double during that stretch. Tim Federowicz is starting behind the dish and hitting ninth in this one.

  • James McCann C | ARI

White Sox's James McCann: Not in Wednesday's lineup

McCann will sit Wednesday against Cleveland.

McCann owns a solid .286/.333/.452 slash line over his last 11 games. Zack Collins gets the nod behind the plate in his absence.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Back in action

Garver (hip) returns to the lineup Wednesday against the Tigers.

Garver hadn't played since suffering a hip impingement in Sunday's game against the Royals, but he's ready to go again after a brief absence. He owns an excellent 1.233 OPS with five homers in his last 11 games.

  • Indians' Roberto Perez: Leaves yard in blowout win

Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday in the Indians' 11-0 win over the White Sox.

The Tribe values Perez mostly for what he offers defensively, but he's also been one of the more surprisingly productive fantasy catchers this season. While his .238 batting average leaves something to be desired, Perez's 24 home runs have exceeded his output (21) from his previous five big-league seasons combined.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Needs hip surgery

Stassi will undergo right hip surgery next week and will need 4-to-6 months to recover, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Kevan Smith and Anthony Bemboom will handle the catching duties over the final games of the season. Stassi hit .136 with one home run in 147 plate appearances this year. This surgery could affect his availability for the start of spring training.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Twins' Mitch Garver: Diagnosed with hip impingement

Garver, who is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Tigers, is dealing with a right hip impingement, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Garver picked up the injury during Sunday's series finale against the Royals. He'll rest and receive treatment before hopefully returning after just a brief absence. Jason Castro is starting behind the dish in his stead.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

    Yankees' Gary Sanchez: Takes BP

Sanchez (groin) took batting practice Monday, George A. King III of the New York Post reports.

Sanchez also caught a BP session from Masahiro Tanaka on Tuesday. The backstop has been sidelined since Sept. 12 with a groin injury but is aiming to return at some point during the Yankees' final series of the season, which begins Friday in Texas, according to Brendan Kuty of The Newark Star-Ledger.
