McCann is out of the lineup Saturday against the Orioles.

It hasn't been a great overall campaign for McCann, but he is slashing a respectable .271/.333/.412 in 93 plate appearances since Aug. 1. Jarrod Saltalamacchia will get the start behind the dish and hit seventh Saturday.

Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and two runs in Friday's 7-5 victory over the Rays.

He keeps adding to his incredible 2016 resume, blasting a 423-foot shot in the second that extended the early lead to 2-0 and getting on base an additional two times on the night. The 23-year-old's round-tripper and RBI were his first since Aug. 27, but he does have hits in 14 of his last 16 games overall.

Perez (wrist) remains out of the lineup Friday against the White Sox, the Kansas City Star's Rustin Dodd reports.

Manager Ned Yost had Perez in the initial lineup but then changed his mind and decided to give the star catcher one more day off. Perez took practice swings Friday and it sounds like he is on track to return to the lineup Saturday. Drew Butera will start at catcher and hit eighth Friday.

A more extensive X-ray on Perez's right wrist Wednesday confirmed that he did not suffer a fracture, and he hopes to return to the lineup Friday in Chicago, the Kansas City Star's Rustin Dodd reports.

Perez said he feared that he suffered a broken wrist when he was hit by a pitch and forced to exit Tuesday's game, but fortunately tests confirmed that he simply suffered a bruise. The Royals have an off day Thursday, so the soonest Perez could return would be Friday, but it would not be surprising if he needed another day or two. Drew Butera is starting behind the dish and hitting ninth Wednesday.

Gomes (shoulder) is scheduled to catch five innings at Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday night, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Gomes has been on rehab with Columbus since Friday, but this will mark his first action behind the plate after previously serving only as the DH. The 29-year-old isn't eligible to return from the DL until September 16, so regardless of how he looks Wednesday, he'll likely make at least one or two more appearances before returning to Cleveland.

Sanchez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Sanchez is just 3-for-16 to begin the month of August, so manager Joe Girardi decided it was time for a day off. Austin Romine will get the start behind the plate in Sanchez's place, batting ninth.

Gomes (shoulder) collected a pair of hits Monday and could see time at catcher over the weekend as his rehab assignment continues, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Gomes will resume his rehab as the DH for Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday as he works his way back towards a possible return to the Indians on Sept. 16.

Perez left Tuesday's game with what is being labeled a right wrist contusion after he was hit on the wrist by a pitch. However, manager Ned Yost admitted that it "wasn't a good sound" when Perez was hit by the pitch, and Yost was unsure about the severity of the injury going forward. That certainly makes it sound as though Perez could have further tests on the wrist, and he could end up missing more time than players typically miss with a contusion. The Royals are off Thursday, so Perez will be out at least until the weekend series against the White Sox. Drew Butera and Tony Cruz will be the two options behind the plate while Perez is out.
