Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Athletics' Matt Chapman: Returns to lineup
Chapman (wrist) is back in the lineup Friday against the Astros.
Chapman was on the bench for Thursday's game against Boston due to a sore wrist, but he was able to appear as a late-game defensive replacement. He'll bat second and play third base Friday.

Ildemaro Vargas 1B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Returns to big leagues
Vargas was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday.
The 27-year-old was sent to the minors on Monday but is able to make a quick return with Jake Lamb (quadriceps) headed to the injured list. Vargas went 1-for-6 with a double and a run scored and should serve as a reserve infielder.

Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE
Indians' Jose Ramirez: Not starting Friday
Ramirez (foot) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.
Ramirez made a precautionary exit from Thursday's game with a left foot bruise and will take a day to rest up Friday. The 26-year-old should be considered day-to-day as Max Moroff receives the starting nod at third base in his absence. According to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, Ramirez underwent precautionary X-rays, which came back negative.

Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Pirates' Kevin Newman: Starts against Reds
Newman made his first start of the season at shortstop Thursday, going 0-for-3 with an RBI groundout.
Fellow shortstop Erik Gonzalez has started four of the team's first five games, keeping Newman mostly tied to the bench. Gonzalez's play has been up and down, however, and Newman could work his way into the mix. The 2015 first-round pick has also practiced with the outfielders, a move that could increase his versatility.

Drew Robinson 3B | TEX
Cardinals' Drew Robinson: Heading to minors
Robinson was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
The 26-year-old was able to crack the Opening Day roster as Jedd Gyorko (calf) started the season on the injured list, and Gyorko's return Friday spelled an end to this big-league stint. Robinson appeared solely as a pinch hitter and went 0-for-3 with one strikeout through the first six games of the year.

Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE
Indians' Jose Ramirez: Leaves matchup with foot contusion
Ramirez was lifted from Thursday's game as a precaution after suffering a bruised left foot, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. He went 0-for-3 with an RBI prior to exiting.
It's good news that Ramirez is simply dealing with a foot contusion, and he'll be considered day-to-day moving forward. Max Moroff replaced Ramirez at third base and would likely get the start at the hot corner Friday if Ramirez is unable to go.

Taylor Walls SS | TB
Rays' Taylor Walls: Nursing quad injury
Walls (quadriceps) is being held back in extended spring training, Mike Rosenbaum of MLB.com reports.
He suffered a quad injury in spring training and could miss roughly the first month of the minor-league season. Walls hit .304/.393/.428 with six homers and 31 steals at Low-A last year, but it's worth noting that was his age-21/22 season, so he was pretty old for the level. Once healthy, he should be assigned to High-A.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Athletics' Matt Chapman: Dealing with sore wrist
Chapman is not in the lineup Thursday against the Red Sox due to a sore wrist, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Chapman was hit on the wrist during Wednesday's loss to the Red Sox, and while he was able to stay in the game, he's a little sore Thursday. The A's are hoping the third baseman will be ready to go for Friday's series opener against the Astros. Chad Pinder is starting at the hot corner in his stead Thursday.
-
Rafael Devers 1B | SF
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Getting day off
Devers will not be in the lineup for Thursday's series finale against the A's, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Devers will take a seat for the first time all season after starting the first seven games, going 7-for-29 (.241) with a pair of doubles and a stolen base in those appearances. Look for the young third baseman to assume his normal spot in the lineup (he's hit third in six of seven games) Friday against the Diamondbacks.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Athletics' Matt Chapman: Sits for first time
Chapman is not in the lineup Thursday against the Red Sox.
Chapman will get what appears to be a routine day off after starting the first nine games of the season, slashing .303/.425/.636 with a trio of homers and a 5:4 BB:K in those contests. Chad Pinder will cover third base and hit fifth in his place.
