  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Sits against left-hander

Muncy is not in the lineup for Sunday's series finale at Colorado, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Muncy will hit the bench for the second straight game against a left-hander with Tyler Anderson starting for the Rockies. David Freese will start at first base and bat fifth.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Slugs 19th homer

Rendon went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in a 6-5 win over the Cubs during the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.

He's now one shy of his third straight 20-homer campaign and the fourth of his career. Rendon has an impressive .319/.374/.486 slash line in 36 games since the beginning of August as he looks to finish out the season in style.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Gets rare day off

Arenado is not starting Saturday against the Dodgers.

Arenado will sit for the first time in nearly a month. His shoulder is not at 100 percent, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports, but he doesn't believe that the issue is affecting his hitting. Whether or not he's right about that, he certainly hasn't been hitting well lately, as he's hitless in his last three contests and has hit just .128 over his last 10. Ryan McMahon will start at third base in his place.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not starting Saturday

Muncy is not in the lineup Saturday against the Rockies.

With the lefty Kyle Freeland on the mound, Muncy won't get the chance to hit at Coors Field. David Freese will start at first base.

  • Mitch Walding 3B | PHI

Phillies' Mitch Walding: Called up by Phillies

Walding was recalled by the Phillies on Saturday.

Walding has received his first 16 big-league plate appearances this season, but he's struck out 10 times and is still looking for his first career hit, though he hit a solid .265/.390/.474 with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He's unlikely to be anything other than a bench bat down the stretch.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Stuck in prolonged skid

Escobar went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in a 5-3 win over the Braves on Friday.

The Diamondbacks' trade-deadline acquisition of Escobar paid immediate dividends when the third baseman slashed .306/.361/.532 across his first 17 games with the club, but the switch hitter has since fallen into the prolonged offensive skid. Escobar hasn't recorded more than one hit in any of his last 16 starts, limiting him to a .203 average over that span. Given that Escobar is still in the midst of a career-best season and few attractive alternatives loom off the bench, he should be locked into a full-time role throughout September in spite of his ongoing slump.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Brewers' Mike Moustakas: Rides pine Friday vs. lefty

Moustakas is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Giants.

Moustakas will get the day off with left-hander Derek Holland slated to take the hill for San Francisco. Travis Shaw will handle the hot corner and bat sixth with Moustakas out of the starting nine.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Cracks 32nd homer

Muncy went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Mets.

He effectively has Justin Turner to thank for his 32nd homer of the year. Zack Wheeler was in complete control for the Mets until being struck by Turner's comebacker in the fourth inning, and three pitches later Muncy took the right-hander deep. The breakout star's batting average continues to fall, as he's gone 6-for-28 (.214) over his last 13 games, but four of those hits have left the yard.

  • Dodgers' Manny Machado: Gets rare day off

Machado is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Mets, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Machado sits for just the second time since joining the Dodgers at the All-Star break. He's hit a solid .273/.351/.488 with nine homers and five steals for his new team. Enrique Hernandez will start at shortstop in his place.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Absent from Wednesday's lineup

Anderson is not in the lineup against the Phillies on Wednesday, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.

Anderson will receive a little breather following eight straight starts in the lineup. That includes a rough stretch over the past three games in which Anderson has gone 0-for-12 with nine strikeouts. Look for him to rejoin the starting nine Friday in Pittsburgh. Yadiel Rivera will man the hot corner during Wednesday's series finale.
