Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Doubles twice, drives in three

Wisdom (wrist) went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 12-5 win over the Reds.

Wisdom took a pitch to his left wrist Monday, but he didn't miss any time and looked fine at the plate Tuesday. The 31-year-old has so far seen time at third base and in right field, and it looks like he could rotate between the two positions but ultimately see regular playing time. Wisdom popped 53 home runs over the past two seasons, so he can be a fantasy factor while he's in the lineup.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Brewers' Brian Anderson: Clubs two homers, drives in six

Anderson went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and six RBI during Tuesday's 9-0 win against the Mets.

The 29-year-old delivered his first long ball of the season in Monday's blowout victory over New York, and he connected again twice to power Milwaukee's offense Tuesday. Anderson hit just eight home runs in 98 games for the Marlins last season, but he's off to a hot start with the Brewers in 2023 with a 1.779 OPS through 15 at-bats.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Marlins' Jean Segura: Swipes first bag of 2023

Segura went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Twins.

The veteran infielder lined a two-out single up the middle in the second inning, then promptly swiped his first bag of the season. Segura stole 13 bases in 19 attempts last season, and the 33-year-old could be a player who benefits from MLB's rule changes to boost the running game; however, first he'll need to start getting on base more frequently -- he's just 2-for-18 (.111) at the plate through the first five games of the year.

  • Brett Baty 3B | NYM

Mets' Brett Baty: Getting scans on right thumb

Baty is scheduled to undergo imaging tests Wednesday after injuring his right thumb in a game Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.

It's ominous news given that the 23-year-old top prospect required surgery for a torn ligament in that same thumb last September. This latest issue is being called right thumb soreness for now, but the imaging scans will paint a fuller picture. Baty was challenging for starting third base duties this spring in Mets camp before Eduardo Escobar ultimately claimed the gig. The former has gotten off to a strong start to the season at Triple-A, going 5-for-14 with two home runs and a stolen base in three contests.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Ejected for arguing auto strike

Machado was ejected from Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks for arguing an automatic third-strike call in the first inning.

Machado tried to call time as the pitch clock ticked down, but the request was denied and then he quickly got the heave-ho after voicing his displeasure with home plate umpire Ron Kulpa. He was starting at DH for the Padres in their matinee tilt versus Arizona and finished 0-for-1 with a strikeout. Nelson Cruz entered in his place.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: In starting lineup after HBP

Wisdom (wrist) is starting at third base and batting sixth for the Cubs on Tuesday night against the Reds.

Wisdom took a pitch off his left wrist in Monday's series opener versus Cincinnati, but he finished out the game and X-rays taken afterward came back clean. All is well for the 31-year-old, who has already slugged two homers in 13 plate appearances this season.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Crushes first homer of year

Riley went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Monday's win over the Cardinals.

He set the tone for the night with a blast to left field in the first inning that was measured at 473 feet. It was Riley's first homer of the season, but there should be many more coming for the 26-year-old third baseman after he launched a combined 71 over the prior two years while driving in exactly 200 runs.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria: Hits first dinger of season

Longoria went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-4 loss against the Padres.

After sitting Sunday, Longoria was back in the starting lineup Monday and smacked his first home run as a Diamondback. The veteran has struggled with injuries, playing less than 90 games in three straight seasons (all with San Francisco), but if he can stay on the field, he figures to see plenty of plate appearances with his new squad.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Hits homer in loss

Candelario went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in a loss to the Rays on Monday.

Candelario scored both of Washington's runs in the defeat. He reached on an error in the seventh and crossed the plate on a Lane Thomas groundout, then homered in his final at-bat to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning. Candelario has gone 2-for-7 over his past two games after going hitless across seven at-bats over the Nationals' first two contests of the campaign, but his defense at third base should keep in the starting role even if he doesn't supply much production with his bat.

  • Jason Vosler 3B | SEA

Reds' Jason Vosler: Homers off bench

Vosler went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's win over the Cubs.

He entered the game in the bottom of the second inning, replacing Jose Barrero (hamstring) on the bases. Vosler stayed in at first base as Wil Myers moved out to right field and TJ Friedl shifted to center. Vosler would end up playing the hero for Cincinnati, hitting a three-run shot in the fifth inning which proved to be the game winner. While he's not an everyday starter for the Reds, Vosler has been swinging the bat well early on when given the opportunity.
