  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Produces again

Devers went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer Tuesday against the Twins.

Devers made his lone hit of the contest count, as he recorded his 29th home run. While he's gone hitless in five of his last 10 games, Devers has balanced that out with three multi-hit performances, six RBI and 11 runs in that span. In addition to his outstanding counting stat contributions, Devers has maintained a .320/.369/.579 line across 600 plate appearances for the season.

  • Nick Madrigal 3B | LAA

White Sox's Nick Madrigal: Won't be called up

Madrigal won't be called up this September, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Madrigal reached Triple-A Charlotte by the end of the season, posting a solid .331/.398/.424 slash line and a miniscule 3.8 percent strikeout rate. Service-time concerns are likely part of the reason why the 22-year-old won't be getting a look down the stretch.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Takes part in agility drills

Urshela (groin) was on the field taking part in agility drills prior to Tuesday's game, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

This represents the first sign of tangible progress in Urshela's recovery from a left groin strain. If this were any time over the first five months of the season, Urshela would seem like a long shot to return from the injured Sunday when first eligible, but with expanded rosters, the Yankees could go ahead and activate Urshela even if he's still a bit limited.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Orioles' Jace Peterson: Removed from 40-man roster

Peterson was designated for assignment Tuesday.

Peterson didn't do much with his opportunities with the Orioles, hitting .220/.269/.330 in 108 plate appearances. The 29-year-old utility man has never posted an average batting line and has only once recorded a wRC+ above 80. He'll make way on the 40-man roster for Mason Williams, whose contract was selected in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Recalled from Triple-A

Candelario was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Candelario will rejoin the Tigers for the remainder of the season after hitting .303 with four home runs, five doubles and a .971 OPS in his most recent minor-league stint (17 games). The switch-hitting third baseman has struggled across 73 games with the big club this year, slashing .198/.289/.326 with seven home runs and 24 RBI.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Smashes vital home run

Toro went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 2-0 victory against the Blue Jays on Sunday.

The 22-year-old was a late addition to the Astros lineup, and good thing he was. Not only did he account for the only runs of the game, but his homer in the ninth allowed Justin Verlander to complete his no-hitter in the bottom of the frame. Maybe the key homer will get him going, but through eight games, Toro is batting .207 with two homers, four RBI and six runs in 29 at-bats this year.

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Strong close to month

Chapman went 2-for-5 with an RBI double, a walk and a run in an extra-innings loss to the Yankees on Saturday.

Chapman's seventh-inning two-bagger with Robbie Grossman aboard snapped a 2-2 tie. Chapman showed a bit more life at the plate during August after a significant downturn in July, and with another seven round trippers during the month, he's reached the 30-homer threshold for the first time in his career.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Late addition to lineup

Updating a previous report, Toro will start at third base and bat sixth Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Initially slated to get the day off, Toro will check back into the starting nine after Yuli Gurriel (wrist) was a late scratch. Aledmys Diaz will slide over across the diamond to first base to open up a spot at the hot corner for the rookie.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Astros' Abraham Toro: Benched again Sunday

Toro is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

He'll sit for the second time in three days while Aledmys Diaz receives another start at the hot corner. Toro is off to a modest 5-for-25 start to his big-league career and may need to catch fire quickly in order to stave off Diaz for regular work.

  • Twins' Willians Astudillo: Back from IL

The Twins reinstated Astudillo (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Sunday. He'll start at first base and bat eighth in the Twins' game against the Tigers.

Astudillo had been sidelined for the Twins' previous 56 games with a left oblique strain but has been healthy for a while now. He recently wrapped up a 14-game rehab assignment split between Triple-A Rochester and Double-A Pensacola, hitting .333 with four home runs. Now that he's back with the big club, Astudillo looks on track to serve as the team's No. 3 backstop and an occasional starter at either corner-infield spot during September.
