White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Dealing with sore knee

Moncada aggravated his right knee injury on a swing during Saturday's loss to the Tigers, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It's not clear when Moncada initially hurt the knee, but evidently he made it worse while in the batter's box Saturday and was icing in postgame. Whether the injury is possibly more than a day-to-day situation isn't known. Moncada did finish Saturday's contest, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Exits with bruised hand

Paredes was removed from Saturday's game against Seattle with a right hand contusion, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Paredes took a pitch off his right hand in the fourth inning of Saturday's contest and had to be removed by a trainer. Luckily, Paredes escaped with just a bruise, avoiding what could have easily been a worse injury. He's officially listed as day-to-day.

  • Buddy Kennedy 3B | SEA

Athletics' Buddy Kennedy: Claimed by Oakland

Kennedy was claimed off waivers by the Athletics on Saturday and optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Kennedy gets to remain on a 40-man roster after being designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, but it's not clear when he'll get his next crack at the big leagues. In 40 major-league games across the last two seasons, the infielder owns a .206/.293/.299 slash line with one homer and zero steals.

  • Orioles' Gunnar Henderson: Racks up three hits

Henderson went 3-for-6 with a triple, a double, one RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 11-2 win over the Red Sox.

Henderson seems intent on finishing the season strong, batting .286 (10-for-35) over his first seven games in September. Six of his hits this month have gone for extra bases. The rookie infielder is at a .254/.328/.483 slash line with 23 home runs, 71 RBI, 83 runs scored, 25 doubles, seven triples and nine stolen bases over 129 contests. He should continue to see a near-everyday role between third base and shortstop.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Jogs on field

Rendon (lower leg) did some light jogging on the field Friday, Doug Padilla of The Orange County Register reports.

This is further evidence that Rendon is finally making progress in his recovery from a bone bruise in his left shin. The veteran third baseman has also been running on a treadmill and hitting off a tee, though he doesn't appear to be particularly close to a return. With the season quickly winding down and the Angels out of contention for a playoff spot, it wouldn't be surprising if Rendon has already played his last game in 2023.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

    Rangers' Josh Jung: Nearing return

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Jung (thumb) could return as early as next week's series against Cleveland beginning Friday, MLB.com reports.

Bochy witnessed Jung take batting practice earlier this week and was impressed. "I saw him in the cage, swinging a bat, and I went, 'Whoa,'" Bochy said prior to Friday's game. "We all were shocked -- our trainer, our hitting guys." If Jung returns next Friday, that would beat the original six-week timeline.

  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Registers homer among three hits

Paredes went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Friday's 7-4 victory over the Mariners.

Paredes added an insurance run to the Rays' total Friday night with a solo blast in the eighth inning. The homer was his 29th of the season and gave him his 89th RBI. Paredes is slashing .253/.352/.502 on the season, adding 115 points to his .739 OPS from 2022.

  • Yoan Moncada 3B | LAA

White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Homers in third straight

Moncada went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Friday's 6-0 victory over the Tigers.

Moncada's two-out, two-run blast in the seventh inning broke a scoreless tie and was all the White Sox would need to earn the victory. He later added an RBI single in the eighth to provide his squad's final run of the evening. Moncada has hit a home run in three straight games to bring his season total up to eight. He's slashing .264/.308/.418 through 76 games this season.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Mariners' Eugenio Suarez: Launches 19th homer

Suarez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's loss against the Rays.

Suarez hit a towering 424-foot home run off Taj Bradley in the second inning to open the scoring for the Mariners. The 10-year veteran has had a down season, and his 19 homers would be the fewest he's produced in a full season since he hit 21 in 2016. Suarez has also generated just a .383 slugging percentage on the season, which would be his lowest mark since his rookie season with the Tigers in 2014.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Angels' Mike Moustakas: Sitting against southpaw

Moustakas isn't in the Angels' lineup Friday against the Guardians, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

With left-hander Logan Allen on the mound for Cleveland, the left-handed bat of Moustakas will stay put in the Halos' dugout to start Friday's game. Eduardo Escobar will man the hot corner instead and bat third.
