  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Multi-RBI effort in win

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a two-RBI double, another two-bagger and a run in a win over the Angels on Friday.

Gelof's fourth-inning two-bagger knocked in Esteury Ruiz and Jonah Bride to cap off a five-run outburst. The rookie pushed his RBI total to an impressive 23 with the timely double and also snapped a rare 1-for-18 slump that had encompassed his last five games. Gelof has demonstrated a welcome knack for clutch hitting early in his career, posting a .905 OPS across his first 43 plate appearances with men in scoring position.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

    Rangers' Josh Jung: Making progress

Texas manager Bruce Bochy said Friday that Jung (thumb) is two to three weeks away from returning to game action, Shawn McFarland of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Jung, who had a plate and pins installed in his left thumb in early August, has started taking one-handed swings in the batting cage. Bochy said Jung will require rehab at-bats, so his return to game action would presumably start in the minors. That could push out his return to the majors to final week of the regular season.

  • Taylor Walls 3B | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Returns from injured list

Walls (oblique) was activated Friday from the 10-day injured list, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Walls is recovered from a left oblique strain that has kept him sidelined since late July and figures to get consistent work at shortstop down the stretch with Wander Franco on administrative leave. Osleivis Basabe remains active with major-league rosters expanding from 26 to 28, but he could slide into more of a utility role.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Moves to 60-day IL

The Twins transferred Miranda (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Friday.

Miranda was already expected to be out until late September, but his move to the 60-day IL ensures he's out until at least Sept. 15. His spot on the 40-man roster will be filled by Andrew Stevenson, who was selected from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.

  • Andre Lipcius 3B | CHW

Tigers' Andre Lipcius: Recalled from Triple-A

Lipcius was recalled from Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Lipcius has slashed .272/.363/.419 with 11 home runs in 97 games this season with Toledo. The 25-year-old can play all over the infield and can also handle left field in a pinch. He'll be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game.

  • Andre Lipcius 3B | CHW

Tigers' Andre Lipcius: Set for callup

The Tigers will recall Lipcius on Friday.

Lipcius was impressive during spring training, posting a .909 OPS with three home runs across 41 at-bats. He's gone on to post a respectable season with Triple-A Toledo by maintaining a .272/.363/.412 line across 416 plate appearances, though that's translated to just a 96 wRC+. It's unclear what his role may be in Detroit, as both Matt Vierling and Zack Short are likely ahead of him on the third base depth chart.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Not in lineup Thursday

Peraza is out of the lineup for Thursday's contest in Detroit, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Peraza has taken over as the Yankees' regular third baseman since being promoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last week, but he'll begin the series finale in Detroit on the bench. Oswaldo Cabrera will occupy the hot corner as the Yankees go for the series sweep.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Continues power surge

LeMahieu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk in a 6-2 victory over the Tigers on Wednesday.

LeMahieu belted a 411-foot solo shot in the second inning to give New York a 3-0 lead. It was the continuation of a surprising recent uptick in power by the veteran infielder, who has gone deep five times (all solo shots) over his past eight contests. Prior to the surge, LeMahieu had hit just eight homers over his initial 104 games this season.

  • Jonah Bride 3B | TEX

Athletics' Jonah Bride: Sitting again in favor of Diaz

Bride remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.

Though he seemed to have supplanted Jordan Diaz as the Athletics' primary third baseman last week, Bride now finds himself on the bench for the fourth consecutive game. While starting each of the five games before that, Bride went 3-for-15 with a double and a pair of walks, so he didn't exactly stake a strong claim to a regular spot in the Oakland lineup.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Angels' Mike Moustakas: On bench Wednesday

Moustakas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

With lefty Cristopher Sanchez taking the hill for the Phillies, the lefty-hitting Moustakas will retreat to the bench. Eduardo Escobar will step in as the hot corner in place of Moustakas.
