Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Slated to bat ninth in return

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said in an interview on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that LeMahieu (foot) will start at third base and bat ninth Tuesday versus the Angels in his season debut.

LeMahieu had appeared in line for leadoff duties with the Yankees before suffering a non-displaced fracture of his right foot shortly before Opening Day. However, Anthony Volpe looks to have a tight grip on the leadoff job now, pushing LeMahieu to the bottom of the batting order for the time being. LeMahieu is slated to be the team's primary third baseman, although he will be given extra off days initially as the Yankees ease him back into action.

  • Bryan Ramos 3B | BAL

White Sox's Bryan Ramos: Not in Monday's lineup

Ramos is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Ramos returned from the injured list over the weekend but went 0-for-7 with four strikeouts at the plate. He'll get a day off Monday to regroup, with Danny Mendick filling in at third base.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Working way out of slump

Bregman went 2-for-4 with a walk Sunday against the Athletics.

Bregman has slumped for significant periods of the season and Sunday's performance was his first multi-hit game in his last eight starts. He's been unlucky to the tune of a .217 BABIP across 216 plate appearances on the campaign, though Bregman's struggles to make consistent quality contact make him susceptible to these results.

  • Bryan Ramos 3B | BAL

White Sox's Bryan Ramos: Looks out of rhythm

Ramos went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts Sunday against the Orioles.

Ramos returned from the injured list Saturday and has started at third base in both of Chicago's games since. He's gone a combined 0-for-7 with four strikeouts that span, a surprising uptick after he struck out only three times across his first 34 big-league plate appearances. Ramos looks to have a clear grip on the job at third base, so he should have the opportunity to regain his rhythm at the dish.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Pops pinch-hit homer

Mendick hit a solo home run in his only plate appearance Sunday against the Orioles.

Mendick continues to lose out on playing time due to the return of Bryan Ramos, though he accounted for the White Sox's only run Sunday after his homer in the eighth inning. It was Mendick's second home run of the season and first since April 30.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

Twins' Royce Lewis: Rehab to continue at Triple-A

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Sunday that Lewis (quadricep) responded well to his first two minor-league rehab games, but the 24-year-old remains without a clear timeline to return from the 10-day injured list, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "But he's going to play this week, and we're going to see how he's doing," Baldelli said.

Lewis went 3-for-9 with a double, two runs and a stolen base over his two rehab games this weekend. The stolen base in particular was an encouraging sign that he's no longer slowed by his right quad strain, though the Twins have told him to play it safe and not attempt any more stolen bases during his rehab assignment. The Twins have been guarded about when Lewis may return, but given the team's need for offense, he may not need more than a week in the minors. Lewis may be limited to designated-hitter duties initially when he returns to limit the wear on his legs.

  • Matt Vierling RF | DET

Tigers' Matt Vierling: Homers twice, walks off Jays

Vierling hit a walk-off home run in Sunday's 14-11 victory over Toronto, finishing 4-for-6 with two home runs, four RBI and three runs scored.

Vierling was the hero Sunday, putting an exclamation point on his career day with a three-run shot off Jordan Romano in the bottom of the ninth. The 27-year-old has earned a near everyday role for Detroit as a utility man, playing in 13 of Detroit's previous 15 contests, batting .214 with six RBI and two runs scored over that stretch. Vierling hit his first home run since May 1 and is now up to five longballs on the season to go with 23 RBI, 19 runs scored with a .278 average.

  • Miguel Sano 3B | LAA

Angels' Miguel Sano: Burns knee with heating pad

Sano will have his rehab program delayed after burning himself with a heating pad, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Angels manager Ron Washington noted Sunday that it's not considered a serious injury, but Sano will be held out of rehab games for a couple of days, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. Sano has two rehab appearances with the Arizona Complex League Angels, going 2-for-5 with two RBI. He was placed on the 10-day injured list May 1 due to left knee inflammation.

  • Jon Berti 3B | CHC

Yankees' Jon Berti: Dealing with high-grade strain

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Sunday that Berti was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a high-grade left calf strain, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports.

Boone didn't provide a timeline for Berti, though the 34-year-old will remain on the IL well beyond the 10-day minimum. Berti sustained the injury in an 8-0 win over the Padres on Friday, when he collapsed to the ground after running out of the batter's box in the ninth inning. Kevin Smith was called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre on Saturday and should provide infield depth while Berti is on the shelf.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Playing time picking up

Miranda will start at third base and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Willi Castro looked as though he would settle in as the Twins' primary third baseman after Byron Buxton returned from the injured list around the middle of May, but Minnesota has instead kept Castro in the regular lineup by moving him all over the outfield. As a result, Miranda has gained traction at the hot corner of late; Sunday will mark his ninth consecutive start at the position. Miranda has earned the playing time by producing a .986 OPS over his last eight starts, but he could nonetheless see his opportunities decrease by the end of next week, when Royce Lewis (quadricep) could be back from the IL.
