Hinch said it won't be a strict platoon between the two players but will be close to that. As the left-handed bat, McKinstry will be in line to receive the bulk of the reps at the position, although Kreidler is starting there Tuesday versus Nationals lefty Mitchell Parker. Hinch noted that Andy Ibanez could see a handful of innings at shortstop, as well.

Tigers' Ryan Kreidler: Back in big leagues

The Tigers recalled Kreidler from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

He's starting at shortstop Tuesday versus the Nationals and is expected to form the short side of a platoon at the position while Javier Baez (back) is out, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Defers (knee) is batting fourth and playing third base Tuesday against Philadelphia, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

Astros' Alex Bregman: Back in lineup Monday

Bregman was removed from Sunday's game against the Angels after being hit on the left hand by a pitch. It was the second time in the last week that he's been struck on the hand by a pitch, but X-rays again came back negative and he won't miss any starts this time around.
