  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

White Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Could lose out on roster spot

Gonzalez could lose out on a roster spot to begin the season in favor of Leury Garcia, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Gonzalez has had an inconsistent spring, leaving his status for Opening Day in flux. On one hand, he's slugged four home runs and added a double across 40 Cactus League at-bats. However, Gonzalez has also struck out 15 times in 43 total plate appearances. While Gonzalez's defensive versatility has been praised by the club, Garcia is also capable of playing many positions, either in the infield or outfield.

  • Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Placed on 60-day injured list

Rodgers (shoulder) was placed on the 60-day injured list by the Rockies on Sunday.

Rodgers was one of three players for Colorado to hit the 60-day injured list, with Sean Bouchard (biceps) and Ryan Rolison (shoulder) joining him on the IL. Rodgers picked up a significant left shoulder injury early in spring that was determined to have damaged to his capsule, and there's a very good chance he won't be able to play in 2023.

  • Rockies' Harold Castro: Contract selected from Triple-A

Castro had his contract selected from Triple-A Albuquerque by the Rockies on Saturday.

Castro will be a part of the Opening Day roster after signing a minor-league contract in January with an invite to MLB spring training. The infielder will likely spell starters all around the infield, and he could see some playing time in the outfield as well. Castro will help the Rockies in 2023, but he is unlikely to help much in fantasy formats even if he gets regular playing time.

  • Taylor Motter 2B | STL

Cardinals' Taylor Motter: Makes Opening Day roster

Motter had his contract selected from Triple-A Memphis by the Cardinals on Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Motter has really impressed in Grapefruit League camp, as he has hit three home runs, stolen four bases and shown the ability to play all over the field in his 51 at-bats in Florida. The 33-year-old will be a depth option for St. Louis, and likely won't be in the starting lineup very often.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Brewers' Luis Urias: Expected back Sunday

Urias experienced dizziness before Friday's Cactus League game, but he is expected back in the lineup for Sunday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Urias was scratched from the lineup before Friday's game, but it was just precautionary and the Brewers wanted to give him a couple of days off. It appears he'll be more than ready for the start of the season come Thursday.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Pops fourth spring homer

Albies went 2-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox.

He took Nick Pivetta deep in the fourth inning, giving Albies his fourth homer of the spring. The second baseman hit sixth in the game, his likely spot to begin the regular season, and he's now hitting .286 (12-for-42) in camp. If there's one minor area of concern with Albies' fantasy value, it's that he has yet to attempt a stolen base this spring after going only 3-for-8 on the basepaths in 2022.

  • Luis Guillorme 3B | HOU

Mets' Luis Guillorme: Set for bench duties

Guillorme got the start at second base in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays, hitting leadoff and going 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

The Mets deployed something close to their Opening Day lineup, but Guillorme filled in for Jeff McNeil at the keystone. Guillorme figures to be the team's top infield bench option this season, and the 28-year-old appears ready for the regular season after going 12-for-37 (.324) this spring with four doubles and a 7:8 BB:K.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

    Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Scratched again

Hoerner was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's Cactus League contest against the Angels due to left biceps tightness, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Hoerner was scratched Thursday due to the same injury, and while he was initially set to make his return Saturday, he needs at least one more day to heal. He's reportedly feeling better, and the Cubs say they're just being cautious, so his availability to Opening Day doesn't appear to be at significant risk.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Returns to lineup

Hoerner (biceps) will lead off and play second base Saturday against the Angels.

Hoerner was scratched Thursday due to left biceps tightness, but the Cubs called the move preventative at the time. Assuming he gets through Saturday's game without issues, he should be good to go for Opening Day.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Back in action

Marte (illness) will lead off and play second base in Saturday's Cactus League game against the Mariners.

Marte had been scratched due to illness Thursday but is ready for game action two days later. He's gone 4-for-19 at the plate in spring training, plus an additional 2-for-8 at the World Baseball Classic.
