  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Sitting Friday

Westburg isn't in the Orioles' lineup Friday against Boston, Danielle Allentuck of TheBaltimoreBanner.com reports.

Westburg will sit down for the second straight game Friday despite being on a five-game hitting streak. Adam Frazier will draw the start at second base while Ramon Urias mans the hot corner.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Returns to big leagues

Garcia was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Friday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Garcia was sent down the minors in early August following a poor start to the second half, but he's being given another opportunity even though he slashed only .268/.315/.381 with one homer and two steals in 25 games for Rochester. The 23-year-old should receive regular starts at second base, at least against right-handed pitching.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: On track to return Tuesday

India (foot) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Friday, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

India has been sidelined since late July with plantar fasciitis in his left foot but is ready to test things out in a game setting. He is expected to be activated Tuesday ahead of the Reds' series in Detroit. Cincinnati will have some lineup juggling to do once the 26-year-old returns, but with Matt McLain (oblique) also currently sidelined, India should be starting most days.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Reaches 25 homers

Torres went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Thursday's 10-3 loss to the Tigers.

Torres reached 25 home runs for the first time since 2019, when he tallied 38 long balls. The 26-year-old infielder has been swinging a hot bat lately, posting a robust .429/.529/1.071 slash line over his last nine games with three doubles, five home runs, nine RBI, 10 runs and a steal across 34 plate appearances during the torrid stretch.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Drills 22nd homer

Marte went 2-for-4 with a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBI against the Cubs in Thursday's 6-2 victory.

Marte and Tommy Pham combined to drive in all six of Arizona's runs in the win, with Marte contributing a two-run homer in the third inning and an RBI single in the ninth. The second baseman extended his modest hit streak to six games, during which he's batting .391 (9-for-23) with five extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs. Marte is up to 22 long balls on the campaign, his highest mark since he slugged 32 homers in 2019.

  • Andy Ibanez 2B | NYM

Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Homers, drives in three Thursday

Ibanez went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Thursday's 10-3 win over the Yankees.

Ibanez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the third inning, then plated two more with a home run in the eighth, his 10th long ball of the season. The utility player came into 2023 with just eight total home runs at the MLB level across two seasons, so the double-digit output has been a bit of a surprise.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Suffers strained bicep

Rengifo exited Thursday's game with a strained left bicep, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rengifo was forced to leave the game after suffering the injury in the on deck circle in the first inning. Randal Grichuk entered the game as a pinch hitter, and Rengifo's likely absence should benefit both Grichuk and Trey Cabbage.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Exits in first inning

Rengifo exited Thursday's game against the Guardians in the first inning, Sarah Valenzuela of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Rengifo was in on the deck circle prior to his first at-bat when he was visited by a trainer and exited the game. It's unclear what occurred or what the injury may be. Randal Grichuk entered the game as a pinch hitter.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Marlins' Xavier Edwards: Another start at second base

Edwards is again starting at second base and batting seventh Thursday against the Dodgers.

Luis Arraez will again play first base, with Josh Bell filling the DH role, as the Marlins cope with Jorge Soler (oblique) being placed on the injured list Wednesday. Edwards has gone 11-for-31 (.355) with two doubles and one stolen base through his first 12 major-league games this year, building on an impressive overall summer with Triple-A Jacksonville. Miami could continue to give the 23-year-old semi-regular looks at second base and in the outfield.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Returning to majors

Garcia is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Rochester ahead of Friday's series opener against the Dodgers, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Garcia has slashed just .268/.315/.381 with one homer and two steals in 25 games since being demoted to Triple-A in early August, but the Nationals will give him another major-league opportunity as they look ahead to 2024 and beyond. Jake Alu has been getting most of the starts at second base in recent weeks, but he could shift more into an outfield role as the Nats deal with injuries in that area of the depth chart.
