  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Records two hits from leadoff spot

Hoerner went 2-for-5 with a double in Monday's 8-7 loss to Atlanta.

Hoerner batted leadoff and managed to reach base twice, though he somewhat surprisingly didn't tally any runs in the high-scoring affair. The 23-year-old once again started at shortstop with Javier Baez on the bench with minor hamstring tightness, but Hoerner is making a case for playing time at second base once Baez is able to return.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Registers 15th RBI

Merrifield went 1-for-3 with an RBI in Monday's 3-2 win over the Tigers.

Merrifield notched his 15th RBI of the season in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to left field, driving in what turned out to be the game-winning run. The 32-year-old is slashing .286/.319/.440 with three homers and is tied for the league lead in stolen bases with Ramon Laureano at eight through 21 games.

  • Gavin Lux SS | TB

Dodgers' Gavin Lux: Activated from injured list

Lux (wrist) was activated from the 10-day injured list Monday.

Lux started 11 of the Dodgers' first 12 games before getting shut down with a sore right wrist. He struggled at the plate prior to the injury, hitting just .220/.244/.317, but he'll likely be given the chance to reclaim a regular role upon his return. Lux is starting at second base and batting seventh Monday against the Reds.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Officially activated as expected

Altuve was activated from the COVID-19 injured list as expected Monday, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

Altuve was hitting .318/.380/.455 through 50 plate appearances before testing positive for coronavirus. He was shut down for just shy of two weeks and will try to return to that level of performance against lefty Justus Sheffield and the Mariners on Monday.

  • Luis Rengifo LF | SD

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Optioned to alternate camp

Rengifo was optioned to the Angels' alternate training site Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Rengifo was an option at third base while Anthony Rendon (groin) was on the 10-day injured list, but he had been out of the lineup in four of the last six games. He'll now return to the alternate training site after Rendon was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

    Astros' Jose Altuve: Activation imminent

Altuve (illness) is slated to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Mariners, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Astros were optimistic that Altuve would be able to return in time for Monday's game, and manager Dusty Baker confirmed that the second baseman is expected to be back in the lineup. Altuve had tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-April but rejoined his teammates over the weekend and has been participating in baseball activities ahead of his return to game action.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Won't miss time

India (head) will bat seventh and play second base Monday against the Dodgers.

India was hit in the head by a pitch Sunday against the Cardinals. While he initially remained in the game to run the bases, he was replaced in the next half inning. The Reds called his removal precautionary, however, so it's no surprise to see him remain in the lineup Monday.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Swipes two bags in win

Merrifield went 2-for-5 with a run, one RBI and two stolen bases in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Tigers.

Merrifield put the Royals on the board with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning Sunday, and his two stolen bases marked the third time that he has swiped multiple bags in a game this year. The 32-year-old is slashing .284/.322/.444 with three home runs, 14 RBI, 14 runs and eight stolen bases in 2021.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | KC

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Drives in two Sunday

Rojas went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in a 7-0 win Sunday over the Braves.

Rojas started in right field in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Braves. The utility man knocked in Nick Ahmed with a double in the first inning, then again on a single in the sixth inning. Rojas often comes off the bench but has started three of the last four games. He is batting .191 in 56 plate appearances.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Pirates' Adam Frazier: Three-hit effort Sunday

Frazier went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and a run scored in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Twins.

Frazier singled and scored in the first inning. In the seventh, he contributed an RBI single to a three-run rally, plating Jacob Stallings. Through 21 games, Frazier has slashed .310/.385/.429 with no home runs, 10 RBI, 12 runs scored and two stolen bases. While he hasn't gone deep, he has six doubles and two triples on the year.
