Yankees' Jazz Chisholm: Moving back to second base

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday in his appearance on Jomboy Media's "Talkin' Yanks" podcast that Chisholm (shoulder) will move back to second base.

Boone had already seemed to be leaning toward shifting Chisholm to second base, and Chisholm's bout with right shoulder soreness likely cinched the decision. Chisholm was out of the lineup for Sunday's game versus the Mets as he battles through the nagging shoulder problem, but he'll be back in the lineup Tuesday versus the Mariners and will cover the keystone. Oswald Peraza is slated to start at third base Tuesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Blaze Alexander: Fills in at second base

Alexander started at second base and went 1-for-4 in Monday's 6-3 win over San Diego.

Alexander was a late addition to the starting lineup after Ketel Marte (groin) was scratched. Marte is hoping to play Tuesday, but Alexander remains on call if needed.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Hoping to return Tuesday

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said after Monday's 6-3 win over the Padres that Marte (groin) has a good chance Tuesday, Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic reports.

Marte was held out for the series opener due to right groin tightness, but the issue isn't expected to keep him sidelined for long. Blaze Alexander filled in at second base for Marte on Monday, going 1-for-4.

  • Colt Keith 3B | DET

Tigers' Colt Keith: Big effort in win

Keith went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a solo home run and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-1 win over the Rays.

Keith batted leadoff and delivered his second three-hit effort of the season, which included his seventh home run of the year. His other three-hit performance came just five days ago, and the 23-year-old is now batting a robust .450 this month with five extra-base knocks across six games. The left-hand hitting Keith is still sitting regularly against southpaws, but the youngster is developing into a dynamic offensive player when facing righties.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Battling groin injury

Marte was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Padres due to right groin tightness, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

The Diamondbacks are considering the star second baseman day-to-day. Marte will presumably be re-evaluated Tuesday to determine his availability for the rest of the series. Blaze Alexander, who is drawing the start Monday night at second base, would be in line for more opportunities if Marte is forced to miss additional time.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Late scratch Monday

Marte (undisclosed) was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Padres, Aaron Hughes of SI.com reports.

Marte was originally set to play second base and bat second in the team's series opener with San Diego, but he's been removed for an undisclosed reason. More information on his status will likely come in the near future, but in the meantime, Blaze Alexander will start at second base and bat ninth Monday.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Optioned to Triple-A

The Giants optioned Fitzgerald to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.

With Casey Schmitt (hand) back from the injured list, Fitzgerald will head back to the minors. He could get another look later this summer, but for now Fitzgerald will receive regular playing time with Sacramento.

  • Tommy Edman 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Tommy Edman: Could return to lineup Wednesday

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that Edman (toe) could be available off the bench Monday and Tuesday in Milwaukee before possibly returning to the lineup Wednesday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

Edman will miss a second straight start Monday as he deals with a right pinkie toe injury, but it sounds like he's feeling better and his absence will be brief. When Edman returns to the lineup, he's expected to serve as the Dodgers' everyday third baseman while Max Muncy (knee) is shelved. Miguel Rojas is handling third base Monday.

  • Mauricio Dubon 2B | ATL

Astros' Mauricio Dubon: Resting for series opener

Dubon is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Though injuries in the Houston infield and outfield are beginning to mount, Dubon will get a chance to catch his breath Monday after he started in each of the team's last eight games. During that eight-game stretch, Dubon made starts at three different positions, though shortstop might end up becoming his primary home until Jeremy Pena (rib) is cleared to return from the injured list.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | TB

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Out of lineup with side issue

Lowe (side) is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Detroit, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

After exiting in the third inning of Sunday's win over the Twins due to left side soreness, Lowe isn't ready to start in the series opener in Detroit. According to Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun, Lowe said Monday that while his condition has improved since Sunday and he hasn't received an MRI, he'll need to see how his side responds to swinging the bat in addition to other pregame work before the Rays determine whether he'll need to go on the injured list. With the All-Star break looming, Tampa Bay could have some motivation to take a cautious approach with the veteran second baseman.
