  • Hye Seong Kim 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Ready for rehab assignment

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Kim (shoulder) will report to Triple-A Oklahoma City this week to begin a rehab assignment, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Roberts confirmed that Kim would be ready to test out his left shoulder in a game setting after the rookie was able to take live batting practice Sunday without issue. Kim, who has been on the injured list since July 29 while recovering from shoulder bursitis, could be ready to rejoin the Dodgers at some point in the final week of August if all goes well during his rehab assignment. Once he's activated from the IL, Kim could settle in as the Dodgers' primary second baseman in the short term, as Tommy Edman (ankle) isn't expected to be ready to return to action until at least early September.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Will be held out again Monday

The Cardinals intend to hold Donovan (toe) out of the lineup for a fourth straight contest Monday in Miami, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Donovan has been dealing with a nagging toe injury, which the team believes has contributed to foot and groin issues. Manager Oliver Marmol said Sunday that Donovan isn't expected to require a stint on the 10-day injured list, and the second baseman could be back in action as soon as Tuesday.

  • Connor Kaiser 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Connor Kaiser: Starts at 2B

Kaiser started at second base and went 0-for-3 in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Rockies.

Kaiser, who gave Ketel Marte a day off at second base, played in the majors for the first time since 2023. With Blaze Alexander serving as the primary third baseman following Arizona's trade of Eugenio Suarez, Kaiser can fill the utility infielder role that once belonged to Alexander.

  • Giants' Tyler Fitzgerald: Goes deep in win

Fitzgerald went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 7-1 victory over the Rays.

The 27-year-old filled in for Casey Schmitt (forearm) at second base for the second consecutive contest and made the most of it. Fitzgerald cracked a 398-foot solo shot off Tampa Bay reliever Mason Englert in the seventh to go back-to-back with Drew Gilbert. After a breakout rookie campaign in 2024, Fitzgerald has struggled with a .220/.278/.335 slash line, four homers, nine steals, 19 runs scored and 14 RBI across 233 plate appearances this season. He should continue to play a starting role in San Francisco while Schmitt is out.

  • Luis Garcia 2B | WAS

Nationals' Luis Garcia: Swipes 10th bag

Garcia went 3-for-4 with two runs scored during Sunday's 11-9 loss to Philadelphia.

Garcia broke out of a mini-slump Sunday, as he entered the contest with just three hits in his last 22 at-bats. The second baseman notched his first stolen base since July 22. In 416 plate appearances this season, Garcia is slashing .263/.303/.401 with 53 runs and 51 RBI.

  • Mets' Luisangel Acuna: Summoned from minor leagues

The Mets recalled Acuna from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Sunday's game against the Mariners in Williamsport, Pa.

New York is designating Acuna as its 27th man for the 2025 MLB Little League Classic, so he'll most likely head back to Syracuse once the contest in Williamsport is completed. Acuna isn't in the lineup for Sunday's contest but will provide the Mets with added depth in the infield.

  • Miguel Rojas 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Sitting after three straight starts

Rojas is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Rojas will take a seat after he had started at second base in each of the last three games while going 2-for-9 with a walk. Though Rojas will give up his spot in the infield to Buddy Kennedy on Sunday, the Dodgers should have regular starts available for both Rojas and Alex Freeland at second and third base until one of Tommy Edman (ankle), Hyeseong Kim (shoulder) or Max Muncy (oblique) returns from the injured list.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Not in Sunday's lineup

Marte is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Marte will head to the bench Sunday after a run of 12 straight starts, during which he posted a 1.050 OPS with five doubles and two home runs. Connor Kaiser will man the keystone for Arizona in the series finale.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Out for another game

Donovan (foot/groin) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees.

Thomas Saggese will cover second base while Donovan takes a seat for a third straight game due to a sore left foot and groin. Per MLB.com, the Cardinals remain optimistic that Donovan will avoid a stint on the injured list. He'll go through a workout Monday or Tuesday before the club decides on his status.

  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: Losing out on playing time

McLain is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

After going 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in Saturday's 11-inning loss, the slumping McLain will head to the bench for the fourth time in seven games. He's slashing .225/.250/.250 with a 38.6 percent strikeout rate since the start of August, and until he begins to make more contact, McLain could have to settle for a part-time role at second base. Santiago Espinal will occupy the keystone Sunday.
