Jordan Lawlar 3B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Jordan Lawlar: Back in bigs
The Diamondbacks recalled Lawlar from Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Lawlar is back with Arizona for the first time since being optioned to Reno in late May. A Grade 1 hamstring strain held him out from late June to mid-August, which could have delayed his big-league return. The top prospect replaces Pavin Smith (quadriceps) on the active roster. Torey Lovullo said Friday that Lawlar will mostly play on the left side of the diamond while Blaze Alexander moves around, per Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com.

Mason McCoy SS | SD
Padres' Mason McCoy: Joining big-league club
The Padres recalled McCoy from Triple-A El Paso on Friday.
McCoy will fill in for Xander Bogaerts (foot), who's being placed on the 10-day injured list. McCoy has gone hitless in five plate appearances with the Padres this season, but he's logged an .804 OPS with 11 homers and 17 stolen bases with El Paso. McCoy will likely compete with Jose Iglesias for starts at the shortstop position.

Jeff McNeil 2B | NYM
Mets' Jeff McNeil: Receiving Friday off
McNeil is out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Marlins.
McNeil started the previous six games and will take a seat after going hitless in the past three contests. Starling Marte is serving as the designated hitter Friday, which pushes Mark Vientos to third base and Brett Baty to second.

Matt McLain 2B | CIN
Reds' Matt McLain: On bench Friday
McLain is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.
McLain will get the night off after making four consecutive starts at second base. Santiago Espinal will fill in at the keystone and bat ninth.

Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL
Braves' Ozzie Albies: Wrist may finally be 100 percent
Albies' early-season issues at the plate may have been due to the lingering effects of a fractured wrist he suffered in 2024, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
The second baseman never used his wrist as an excuse while posting a .606 OPS with seven homers in 95 games through the All-Star break, but hitting coach Tim Hyers believes it was at the root of his struggles. Whatever the cause, Albies has looked more like his old self of late, slashing .294/.314/.529 over his last 16 games with four doubles, four home runs and 16 RBI, including his first long ball of the season from the right side of the plate. The 28-year-old switch hitter has a $7 million club option on his contract for 2026 against a $4 million buyout, and a strong finish to the campaign should ensure he remains in Atlanta.

Ildemaro Vargas 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Delivers two runs in win
Vargas started at designated hitter and went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Brewers.
Vargas recorded one of the Diamondbacks' two hits with runners in scoring position, delivering a bases-loaded single in the second inning. He's played sporadically since coming off the injured list last week, but there may be more opportunities for him as the DH with Pavin Smith (quadriceps) unavailable.

Hye Seong Kim 2B | LAD
Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Likely to return next week
Kim (shoulder) is slated to be activated off the injured list when rosters expand next week, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Kim began a minor-league rehab assignment Aug. 21 and has fared fine so far, slashing .273/.292/.273 through six games. Of note, he recently began playing left field with Triple-A Oklahoma City, which may be a sign that the Dodgers plan to use him at that position to some extent when he returns to the big club. By waiting until after rosters expand to activate Kim, Los Angeles won't need to clear room for him with another transaction.

Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Supplies team's only runs in loss
Hoerner went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.
Hoerner gave Chicago a 3-1 lead with his three-run blast in the second inning, but the Giants responded with the game's next 11 runs. The long ball was Hoerner's first since July 29, though he did bat a decent .264 with an 8:6 BB:K and four steals during the 24-game homer drought. Hoerner has never been much of a power hitter, so it's not entirely surprising that he's hit just five home runs through 128 games this season. He's found other ways to contribute with a .290 batting average, 64 runs, 53 RBI and 23 stolen bases.

Matt McLain 2B | CIN
Reds' Matt McLain: Nabbing fourth straight start
McLain will start at second base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.
McLain looked to have faded into a part-time role around the middle of the August following a prolonged rough patch at the plate, and though he has yet to get dialed back in, the Reds are giving him the chance to hit his way out of the slump. He'll stick in the lineup for a fourth straight game, though he'll need to heat up before he moves out of a bottom-third spot.

Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL
Braves' Ozzie Albies: Stays hot with five-RBI day
Albies went 2-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and five RBI in Wednesday's 12-1 win over the Marlins.
A three-run shot off Ryan Gusto in the third inning gave Albies his 13th homer of the season and his third in the last two games. The second baseman also has six multi-hit performances in the last 15 contests, a hot streak that has seen him bat .308 (20-for-65) with four doubles, four long balls, one steal, 12 runs and 15 RBI.
