  • Red Sox's Brendan Rodgers: Exits with possible shoulder injury

Rodgers was removed from Wednesday's Grapefruit League game versus the Twins in the fourth inning with an apparent shoulder injury, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Rodgers suffered the injury on a diving attempt at second base. He had a two-RBI single in his lone plate appearance before exiting. The Red Sox should have more on Rodgers -- who is trying to win a reserve role -- after the game.

  • Travis Bazzana 2B | CLE

Guardians' Travis Bazzana: Logs first spring hit

Bazzana started at second base and went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday's spring game against the Dodgers.

Bazzana accounted for all the Guardians' offense with a three-run shot in the second inning. It was his first Cactus League hit, which he sent 423 feet to center field. Cleveland's top pick in the 2024 draft has made three spring appearances thus far and will continue to pile up at-bats over the next week in advance of his participation in the World Baseball Classic for Team Australia.

  • Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Two hits in spring debut

Donovan made his Cactus League debut Tuesday against the White Sox. He started at third base and went 2-for-2 with a run scored.

It's an encouraging start to the spring for Donovan, who's expected to open the year as Seattle's primary third baseman and leadoff hitter. Donovan, who was acquired from St. Louis earlier in February, slashed .287/.353/.422 with 10 homers across 118 games in 2025.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

Red Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Unlikely for Opening Day

Gonzalez (shoulder) said Wednesday that he doesn't see himself being ready for Opening Day, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. "Honestly, I don't think so," Gonzalez said when asked if he will be ready for the start of the regular season. "At this point, I think the ramp-up would be a little too quick, and it'd be a disservice I feel like to myself and the team if I'm not ready to roll and have a good build up."

The Red Sox were said to be holding out hope for Gonzalez to be ready to start the season, but it now sounds like that is off the table. The 29-year-old is not taking part in any baseball activities and remains limited to playing catch after shoulder inflammation complicated his offseason routine. He was treated with a PRP injection last month.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Athletics' Jeff McNeil: Reaches base twice in spring debut

McNeil (shoulder) started at second base and went 1-for-1 with a walk in Sunday's Cactus League loss to the Guardians.

McNeil suited up for the first time as a member of the Athletics and reached base in both plate appearances, though he also committed a fielding error before being lifted Sunday. The veteran underwent thoracic outlet surgery shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 season, so his early participation in spring is an encouraging sign. The 33-year-old hit .243/.335/.411 with 21 doubles, 12 home runs and 54 RBI across 122 regular-season games with the Mets last year and will look to produce for his new club in 2026, likely entrenched at second base to open the campaign.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Yankees' Jose Caballero: Focused on bat speed over winter

Caballero did some training at Driveline Baseball this offseason, where he focused on increasing his bat speed, Chris Kirschner and Brendan Kuty of The Athletic report.

Caballero's goal is to get his average bat speed up to 71 mph this season, which is a bit below the league average of 71.7 mph but would be a notable jump from his 69.1 mph average in 2025. The super utility player went deep in Grapefruit League action Sunday against the Mets and believes reaching double digits in home runs in 2026 is a reasonable goal, per Kuty. That would be a career high for Caballero, who popped nine homers in 2024 and five in 2025. The 29-year-old is slated to open the upcoming season as the Yankees' everyday shortstop while Anthony Volpe (shoulder) recovers.

  • Michael Helman 2B | TEX

Rangers' Michael Helman: Returns to action Sunday

Helman (groin/hip) started in left field and went 0-for-1 with a strikeout Sunday in the Rangers' 9-5 win over the Rockies in Cactus League play.

Helman had been scheduled to make his second start of the spring Saturday against the Cubs, but he was scratched from the lineup due to injury. The groin/hip issue was evidently a minor concern, given that the Rangers felt comfortable reinserting him into the lineup a day later. Helman will be competing for a utility job with the Rangers throughout the spring and could be deployed in the short side of a platoon if he ends up making Texas' Opening Day roster.

  • Thairo Estrada 2B | BAL

Orioles' Thairo Estrada: Gets NRI deal with O's

Estrada signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Monday that includes an invite to big-league spring training, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Baltimore already acquired Blaze Alexander to help offset the injuries to Jordan Westburg (elbow) and Jackson Holliday (hand), and now Estrada will enter the fray as well. Estrada, 30, hit .253/.385/.370 with three home runs in 39 games with the Rockies last year. His 2025 season ended in August due to a hamstring strain.

  • Payton Eeles 2B | BAL

Orioles' Payton Eeles: Exits with shoulder issue

Eeles left Sunday's spring training game against the Tigers due to left shoulder discomfort, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Eeles suffered the injury on a collision with teammate Enrique Bradfield in the outfield. Eeles is aiming to earn a bench spot on the big-league roster, so this injury certainly won't help his cause if it forces him to miss additional time. He can be considered day-to-day moving forward.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Athletics' Jeff McNeil: Ready for spring debut

McNeil (shoulder) will start at second base and bat sixth in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Guardians, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

McNeil will don an Athletics uniform for the first time after coming over from the Mets in a December trade. He underwent thoracic outlet surgery shortly after the conclusion of the 2025 regular season, with his agent later saying that the issue caused McNeil discomfort when he swung the bat late in the campaign. Entering his age-34 season, he figures to benefit from a big park upgrade moving from Queens to Sacramento.
