  • Tigers' Ronny Rodriguez: Goes deep again

Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Astros.

Detroit mustered just two hits against Houston ace Justin Verlander, but Rodriguez made his count, launching his ninth home run of the season in the fifth inning to put the Tigers up 1-0. The 27-year-old utility player homered twice during the three games in Houston, and he showed earlier this year that he's capable of hot streaks with a little power, though a slump is often not far behind.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Suffers quad injury in rehab game

Lowe (lower leg) was removed from Tuesday's rehab appearance at Triple-A Durham with a left quadriceps strain, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.

Lowe seemed to be trending towards his return to the majors from a right lower leg bruise that sidelined him over a month, but he suffered the quad strain running out a groundball Wednesday. The 25-year-old will return from the rehab assignment while the extent of the new injury is determined.

  • Corban Joseph 2B | BAL

Athletics' Corban Joseph: On bench vs. lefty

Joseph is not starting Wednesday against the Yankees.

Joseph, who has gone 5-for-23 (.217) in six games since earning a promotion, will take a seat Wednesday as the Athletics look to stack right-handed hitters against lefty J.A. Happ. In his place, Jurickson Profar is starting at the keystone and hitting eighth.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Plays all nine innings in field

Lowe (lower leg) went 0-for-4 while playing all nine innings at second base in Triple-A Durham's loss to Charlotte on Tuesday.

Lowe came up empty at the plate, but he encouragingly was able to log a full game in the field for the first time during his rehab assignment. That's a notable development for the rookie, whose recovery from his lower-leg injury has taken much longer than expected. Having reached this important benchmark, Lowe will look to string together consecutive full games before being deemed ready for activation.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

Astros' Jack Mayfield: Starts at shortstop Tuesday

Mayfield started at shortstop for the injured Carlos Correa (back) and went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 6-3 win over Detroit.

The Astros placed Correa on the injured list Tuesday, so Mayfield's name should be written into several lineups while Correa is unavailable. The injury is not considered a serious one.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Launches 19th home run

Polanco went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer in a victory over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Polanco registered his second straight game with a long ball by belting a 366-foot shot to left field in the eighth inning. He has gone 8-for-18 with seven RBI and seven runs scored over his last four games and is now slashing .296/.358/.498 with 19 homers and 66 runs batted in over 562 plate appearances this season.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Racks up three hits including homer

Altuve went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in a victory over the Tigers on Tuesday.

Altuve belted a solo homer in the first inning and knocked in another run with an infield single in the second. The 29-year-old has had a productive August, hitting .308 (24-for-78) with seven long balls, 15 RBI and 23 runs scored in 18 games. After a slow start to the season, Altuve has raised his slash line to .302/.362/.546 through 406 plate appearances.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Slams fifth homer

Rengifo went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and two walks in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Rangers in the first game of a doubleheader.

The second baseman smashed a pitch off Phillips Valdez 427 feet over the center-field fence to increase the Angels' lead to 5-0. The 22-year-old has hit just two homers since June 25 and has gone 15-for-60 in August. He also was caught stealing Tuesday and has just one stolen base with the Angels this season after stealing 41 in three minor-league stops in 2018. He holds a .245/.329/.369 slash line in 298 at-bats.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Resumes swinging

Chavis (shoulder) has been cleared to begin swinging a bat, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports.

Chavis was able to take part in some fielding work Monday, and he took another step forward Tuesday by gaining clearance to swing a bat once again. He'll need to complete a rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list, though the Red Sox haven't revealed when he may be cleared for game action.

  • Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI

Rangers' Elvis Andrus: Sitting in matinee

Andrus is not in the lineup for Game 1 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Angels.

He is hitting .279 with one home run and three steals in 17 games this month. Andrus ranks seventh in the majors with 25 steals. Logan Forsythe will start at shortstop and hit fifth.
